A Kolkata Police commando was discovered hanging inside a toilet located at the Police Training School in Kolkata on Saturday. The individual has been identified as Deepak Tamang, 49, who had a longstanding career with the Kolkata Police commando force. Police officials have indicated that preliminary investigations suggest a possible suicide, although the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain undetermined.

Deepak Tamang’s body was found suspended from an overhead pipeline within a fourth-floor toilet in the commando barracks. The toilet door had reportedly been locked from the inside for an extended period, alerting his colleagues to the situation. When their repeated calls yielded no response, they forcibly opened the door and discovered him hanging inside.

Upon finding him, his colleagues quickly retrieved him and transported him to SSKM Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead. An officer from the police department stated, “Preliminary findings indicated that Tamang may have died by suicide; however, the precise circumstances leading up to the incident are still under examination.”

Police Investigation Underway

Authorities have commenced an investigation into the unnatural death, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. A spokesperson explained that various aspects of the incident are being explored. “The circumstances surrounding his death are being looked into, and the post-mortem report will be integral to our inquiry,” the officer added.

During initial assessments, police reportedly noted signs of a ligature mark on Tamang’s body. These findings align with indications of suicide, yet law enforcement continues to investigate the specific cause and conditions of death. Tamang, originally from the Sat Mile area in Kalimpong district, north Bengal, was well-regarded among his peers, known for his skill and extensive experience within the force. His family has been notified regarding the tragedy.
