The CSR Journal Magazine

Jim Sarbh recently shared his deep admiration for veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, reminiscing about the first time he witnessed Shah’s performance at just 18 years old. This encounter took place during a theatrical adaptation of Kahlil Gibran’s “The Prophet.” Sarbh described the experience as captivating, expressing his astonishment and curiosity about the actor, saying, “Oh my God, who is this guy? This is incredible.” His initial encounter with Shah marked the beginning of a lasting appreciation for the actor’s talent.

Discovery of Shah’s Influential Film Work

Upon initially seeing Shah perform, Sarbh was unaware of the extensive and celebrated body of work the actor had built within Hindi cinema. Following the encouragement of peers, who noted Shah’s prominence in Bollywood, Sarbh began to delve into the actor’s filmography. This exploration led him to films such as “Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro,” where he recognised Shah’s remarkable ability to portray authenticity in his roles.

As he studied Shah’s performances, Sarbh became increasingly impressed by the spontaneity and rawness that Shah brought to each character. He articulated how watching the actor made one feel as though real events were unfolding in front of them, enhancing the overall cinematic experience. Sarbh maintained that Shah’s performances exhibited a compelling sense of realism, which left a significant mark on his own artistic aspirations.

Many years later, Sarbh has finally realised his dream of collaborating with Shah in the upcoming series “Made in India – A Titan Story.” He spoke about the immense satisfaction he felt working alongside an artist he had long admired from a distance, describing the experience as fulfilling.

Collaboration in “Made in India – A Titan Story”

In “Made in India – A Titan Story,” Sarbh has the opportunity to engage with Shah in a manner that mirrors the mentor-mentee relationship, blending elements of a father-son dynamic. Sarbh expressed his joy at sharing screen space with Shah, indicating that this collaboration was something he had aspired to achieve. He mentioned that he had always dreamed of being cast opposite Shah in a role that could reflect their generational connection.

Sarbh elaborated on the experience, stating, “I loved it, and I hope to work with him again.” This sentiment showcases his desire to continue learning from the esteemed actor. The project has enabled Sarbh to engage with one of India’s respected artists, thereby enriching his own craft.

“Directed by Robbie Grewal and penned by Karan Vyas, “Made in India – A Titan Story” is set to premiere on Amazon MX Player on June 3. The collaboration is noteworthy, considering the stature both actors hold in the Indian film and theatre landscape.
