A 24-year-old woman from India has gone missing less than a week after landing in the United States, prompting an ongoing investigation by New Jersey authorities.

The woman, identified as Simran Simran, arrived in Lindenwold on June 20. Six days later, on June 26, she was officially reported missing. According to surveillance footage reviewed by local police, Simran was seen using her phone and appearing to wait for someone. Officials noted there was no obvious sign of distress in the video.

Simran’s visit to the U.S. was said to be related to an arranged marriage, according to initial reports. However, law enforcement is now considering alternative motivations. As reported by The New York Post, investigators are not ruling out the possibility that the marriage plan may have been used to facilitate her travel.

The missing woman does not speak English and has no relatives or known contacts in the United States. Police added that she carries an international phone which only operates via Wi-Fi, making it difficult for her to communicate locally or use cellular services.

“At this time there are no known family members in India to contact to obtain information on her possible whereabouts,” the Lindenwold Police Department said in a statement published by Patch News on Thursday.

Simran was last seen dressed in grey sweatpants, a plain white T-shirt, and black flip-flops. She was also wearing diamond earrings. Police described her as 5 feet 4 inches tall, approximately 150 pounds (68 kg), with a small scar visible on the left side of her forehead.

Efforts to reach her family in India have so far failed. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Joe Tomasetti with the Lindenwold Police Department.

This disappearance follows another similar case earlier this year. In March, a 20-year-old Indian student named Sudiksha Konanki vanished during a vacation in the Dominican Republic. She had gone for a morning swim and was never seen again.
