Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has initiated the ‘Harit Ghar – Swasth Samaj’ campaign in Ahmedabad, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday on September 17, 2026. The initiative was organised by the Vishwa Gujarati Samaj and aims to plant 76,000 kitchen garden saplings as part of its objectives. This event serves as a celebration of both Modi’s birthday and a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Significance of Environmental Initiatives

During the launch event, Patel emphasised the need for environmental conservation while promoting development. He mentioned that initiatives such as ‘Mission LiFE’, ‘Catch the Rain’, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, and natural farming are vital for fostering a sustainable future. The Chief Minister explained that the ‘Harit Ghar – Swasth Samaj’ campaign aligns with these goals, encouraging citizens to cultivate their own vegetables, which would foster a better understanding of environmental issues and sustainable practices.

Patel also acknowledged the extensive development Gujarat has experienced during Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister. He cited improvements in critical infrastructure, including advances in electricity, water supply, and road networks. Patel stated that such development is a clear representation of Modi’s leadership and the resultant trust it has generated among citizens both in India and abroad.

Promoting Economic Growth and Employment

Turning his focus to Gujarat’s economic landscape, Patel highlighted the emergence of GIFT City as a significant global financial hub. He remarked that the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit has played a crucial role in attracting international investment to the state. The Chief Minister also noted a dramatic increase in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Gujarat, growing from 1.85 lakh small-scale industries in 2001 to over 27 lakh currently, which in turn has created numerous job opportunities for citizens.

Community Involvement and Recognition

Patel called upon the citizens to actively participate in the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, commencing on the Prime Minister’s birthday, with the aim of nurturing a ‘Viksit Gujarat’ and fulfilling the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’. He urged the community to contribute to the ongoing developmental narrative, reinforcing the commitment towards progress and sustainability.

The event also featured the recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions across various sectors. Rangdatt Joshi, Vijay Dobariya, and Sohil Patel were honoured for their efforts, underscoring the importance of individual contributions to societal development. Furthermore, the Chief Minister engaged with young entrepreneurs at stalls representing around 35 startups dedicated to environmental protection, fostering innovation and collaboration.

In a notable moment, the Golden Book of Records presented a World Record certificate for the initiative aimed at distributing 76,000 kitchen garden saplings, thus highlighting the ambitious scope of the campaign. Both Bhavesh Lakhani, President of Vishwa Gujarati Samaj, who delivered the welcome address, and General Secretary Sudhir S. Raval, who outlined the campaign, played key roles in the event’s success. The attendance included various officials, legislators, and members of the Vishwa Gujarati Samaj, all contributing to the day’s objectives.
