The Delhi government has announced the establishment of Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) committees in all thirteen districts of the capital. This initiative aims to enhance efforts in addressing animal cruelty more effectively and expediently at the local level. By decentralising responsibilities, authorities plan to bolster the enforcement of existing animal protection laws within the region.

Each district will host its dedicated SPCA committee, tasked with monitoring instances of cruelty and promoting animal welfare initiatives. Each SPCA committee will be overseen by the District Magistrate (DM), ensuring that local administrative leaders are directly involved in animal welfare efforts. The operational framework is designed to function at two distinct levels: the district level and the state level. At the state level, the Animal Welfare Board of Delhi will serve as the apex authority, providing technical guidance and financial assistance to the district committees.
