Smiling Tree, a prominent advocate for environmental sustainability founded by Dr Mukesh Kwatra, proudly collaborated with Delhi Police – Roop Nagar Police Station. Together, they embarked on a journey to transform the police station into an environmentally and citizen friendly facility, culminating in the station’s recent triumph of securing the third position.
At present, there are 15 districts and 209 police stations in Delhi. Annually evaluation is done by Delhi Police to choose the best Police Stations of Delhi. A Special Commissioner and two Joint Commissioners were delegated the task. Sultampuri Police Station bagged the first position, Okhla Police Station the second place and Roop Nagar Police Station the third.
Dr. Mukesh Kwatra expressed his delight in partnering with Delhi Police Roop Nagar Police Station, stating, “We are thrilled to work with the dedicated team at Roop Nagar Police Station to enhance their efficiency, positive environmental impact, reduce it’s carbon footprint and make it an institution that caters to the needs of disabled individuals, children, women and is affable to the general public at large. This partnership exemplifies our commitment to creating sustainable communities.”
Mr. Kiran Pal Rana, SHO of Roop Nagar Police Station, praised the collaboration, saying, “Smiling Tree and Dr Mukesh Kwatra’s expertise and support have been invaluable in helping us implement green and people-oriented practices at our station. I express my gratitude to them for helping us secure the coveted third position in Delhi.”
As part of their collaboration, Smiling Tree planted scores of flowers and plants besides putting up two Vertical Gardens made using old plastic bottles at the Roop Nagar Police Station. Their efforts have not only improved the station’s environmental footprint but also fostered a culture of sustainability among its personnel and the community.
In addition to their partnership with Roop Nagar Police Station, Smiling Tree continues to make significant contributions to environmental conservation across Delhi. At Delhi University’s historic Indraprastha College for Women, Smiling Tree planted hundreds of Salvia, Calendula, and Dog flowers, enhancing the college’s green spaces as it celebrates its centenary milestone.
Moreover, Smiling Tree joined hands with Mitti Cafe at Hansraj College, University of Delhi, to mark the cafe’s anniversary. They gifted planters to the employees of Mitti Cafe and planted Areca Palm and Salvia flowers around the cafe premises, promoting biodiversity and sustainability. Mitti Cafe, founded by young entrepreneur Alina Alam, has a commendable mission of providing employment opportunities to individuals with special needs, disabilities, and from vulnerable communities.
Additionally, Smiling Tree contributed to the beautification of Hansraj College by planting 750 flowering plant varieties, including dianthus, petunias, marigold, dahlias, and crotons, further enriching the campus environment.
Smiling Tree continues to spearhead initiatives for environmental conservation and community engagement, and motivate individuals, especially the young, and organizations to join them in their mission to make Earth more eco-friendly and sustainable for future generations.
