New Year’s day is a day for new beginnings and resolutions. It has been said that if you start your year right, you will be able to end it right too. And while this may be a myth, there is no harm in using this energy to give a direction to the new year.

This year, apart from the personal goals, we want every citizen to participate in national development in some way. This is why we have some recommendations that everyone can add to their new year resolutions list.

  1. Reduce the consumption of single-use plastic

Single-use plastic has become a huge menace in our country. With landfills getting saturated, the government is taking desperate measures to manage it. It is time we participate in the movement to control this waste as well.

The maximum amount of plastic waste generated is the branded waste. We as individuals can be conscious about what we are buying and reduce purchasing junk food which uses single-use plastic for packaging. This will not only be beneficial to the environment but also health.

  1. Random Act of Kindness

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to be nice. Everyone has problems, stress and deadlines. By showing kindness to someone every day, you might just become a cause of someone’s smile for a day or happiness for life.

According to studies, Random Acts of Kindness reduce anxiety, controls blood pressure and prevents heart diseases. It is also very helpful in fighting depression and improving mortality rate. These benefits are all surplus to the amazing rewards for social development.

  1. Watch what you eat

Indians waste a lot of food every year. Considering the number of people that go hungry each day, this information is very disturbing. This year, let us do our bit by reducing food wastage from our end. Small gestures like controlling portions of food cooked on daily basis and taking several small helpings instead of one huge helping will reap many benefits.

  1. Each one teach one

One-third of the world’s total number of illiterate people are in India. Even for the children who are getting educated, do not get quality education and exposure in many places. Even having a conversation with an educated person can do wonders for the personality development of a child. And being a mentor to a child does not take a lot of time. Only an hour a week can provide children with the support and assurance they require to grow and prosper well.

  1. Work more talk less

There are so many causes that we feel strongly about. We have strong opinions about the change we need in the society and what needs to be done for it. We are all very vocal about it on various media platforms. This year, instead of just talking about it, let us take that first step to do something about the cause we feel strongly about.

  1. Fuel your body

We have only one earth. We cannot afford to take it for granted. Caring for the environment is not an option anymore. To do our bit towards the planet, make a resolution to ditch the fossil-fueled vehicle for one day every week and cycle or walk to work. This will not only reduce the carbon footprint but also help to meet your health goals.

  1. Plant trees

We cannot stress enough on the importance of planting trees. Planting a tree once can reap results for a lifetime. Let us plant as many trees as we can this year to restore the damage we have caused to the environment.

Thank you for reading the story until the very end. We appreciate the time you have given us. In addition, your thoughts and inputs will genuinely make a difference to us. Please do drop in a line and help us do better.
