Sakshi, a rights based NGO, as one of the implementing partners of the Women’s Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) is marking the #UN16Daysof Activism Campaign against Gender-Based Violence in the tea gardens of Darjeeling and in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The global campaign occurring annually from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day sees civil society organizations across the world highlighting the widespread violation of women’s rights and standing in solidarity in the fight against the elimination of gender-based violence.
Through a series of impactful events, Sakshi is raising the issues of gender based violence across the tea gardens where they implement the Programme. These included pledge and signature campaigns to stand against violence, performing skit to raise awareness, carrying out rallies, organizing games and film shows. A district level stakeholders’ meeting bringing together key personnel from the Idukki district administration, tea communities of Harrisons Malayalam Limited – A group, service providers and civil society organizations was also held in Kerala.
