GMR Kashi Smart Meter Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of GMR Power and Urban Infra Limited (GPUIL), in collaboration with GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF) and Help Age India, today has launched a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) project in the Varanasi cluster.
This initiative underscores the GMR Group’s unwavering commitment to social responsibility by providing accessible healthcare to underserved communities. The MMU will deliver free healthcare services, including medical consultations, medicines, basic diagnostic tests, and referral services, directly to the doorsteps of elderly and underprivileged individuals in Varanasi and nearby districts.
Around 10 medical camps will be conducted weekly, covering various parts of the cluster. Each MMU will be staffed by a dedicated team comprising a doctor, pharmacist, mobilizer, and driver, supported by a social officer to ensure seamless coordination.
Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Mr. Ashis Basu, CEO of GMR Energy, said, “At GMR Group, we believe in creating shared value for the communities we operate in. The launch of the Mobile Medical Unit in Varanasi reflects our deep-rooted commitment to improving lives through sustainable and impactful healthcare initiatives. With the support of GMRVF and our esteemed partner HelpAge India, we aim to reach the most vulnerable sections of society, ensuring they receive the medical attention they deserve. This is yet another step in our journey of giving back to society and making a meaningful difference.”
This initiative is part of GMRVF’s broader efforts to provide healthcare services across the country. The Varanasi MMU marks the ninth such unit operated by GMRVF, with eight others already delivering impactful services in various regions. As part of the Smart Meter project, similar MMU services will soon be introduced in Prayagraj and Agra clusters, further expanding the reach of this vital program. GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), a Section-8 not-for-profit company, serves as the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of the GMR Group. The Foundation operates in about 20 locations nationwide, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for underserved communities through initiatives in education, healthcare, and livelihoods.
