According to the Chief Minister, preliminary findings indicate that the alleged network accumulated vast assets over several years, including 243 vehicles, around 300 bighas of land, and at least seven large houses or farmhouses.

He claimed the operation involved multiple layers of governance—from local panchayats to the police, the Motor Vehicles Department, the Land Department, and sections of mineral-related agencies. “Such things do not happen without directives from the highest level,” Adhikari alleged, warning that officials found complicit would face strict action.

Adhikari also highlighted the role of the West Bengal Police in the operation, noting that unlike previous high-profile cases often handled by central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI, this crackdown was led by the state police.

Investigators have so far traced assets worth approximately Rs 150 crore, with further probes underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged racket.

Revenue gains and governance claims

Pointing to governance under the current administration, the Chief Minister claimed that state revenue collection has increased by 12 per cent within just 10–11 weeks compared to the same period last year. He expressed optimism that the increase could reach 20 per cent by the end of the financial year.

Adhikari further stated that the money allegedly siphoned off through such networks could have been used for public welfare initiatives. “This organised crime, these syndicates, and the diversion of revenue—funds that could have built hospitals, schools, and created jobs—could not have continued for so long without approval from the top,” he said.

The developments have escalated political tensions in the state, with the opposition and ruling dispensation trading allegations. Authorities continue to investigate the case to identify all individuals involved and determine the scale of the alleged corruption network.

जो डेलिगेट्स (प्रतिनिधि) इस चुनाव में मतदान करने वाले हैं, वे गुप्त मतदान से चुनकर नहीं आए हैं, बल्कि उन्हें राज्यों के उन अध्यक्षों ने मनोनीत किया है जो खुद गांधी परिवार के प्रति वफादार हैं।

यदि राहुल गांधी सच में लोकतांत्रिक तरीके से अध्यक्ष बनना चाहते हैं, तो उन्हें पहले उपाध्यक्ष पद से इस्तीफा देना चाहिए और एक आम कार्यकर्ता की तरह चुनाव लड़ना चाहिए।

भाजपा ने उठाया बगावत का फायदा

शहजाद का यह बयान कांग्रेस के लिए एक बहुत बड़ा झटका था, क्योंकि गुजरात विधानसभा चुनाव के ऐन वक्त पर आए इस बयान को भाजपा ने लपक लिया। खुद प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने अपनी चुनावी रैलियों में शहजाद पूनावाला के साहस की तारीफ की और कांग्रेस के आंतरिक लोकतंत्र और ‘वंशवाद’ पर करारा हमला बोला।

भाई से टूटे रिश्ते, परिवार ने भी किया ‘किनारा’

शहजाद पूनावाला के इस कदम से न केवल कांग्रेस पार्टी में भूचाल आया, बल्कि उनके अपने घर में भी दरार पड़ गई। जैसे ही शहजाद ने राहुल गांधी के खिलाफ मोर्चा खोला, उनके बड़े भाई तहसीन पूनावाला और भाभी मोनिका वाडेरा ने तुरंत मीडिया में आकर शहजाद से अपने सारे रिश्ते तोड़ने का एलान कर दिया। तहसीन पूनावाला ने कहा कि शहजाद का यह कदम उनके और उनके परिवार के लिए पूरी तरह से अस्वीकार्य है। उन्होंने सार्वजनिक रूप से घोषणा की कि उनका और उनकी पत्नी मोनिका का अब शहजाद से कोई राजनीतिक या व्यक्तिगत संबंध नहीं है।

Parrikar often referred to a formative memory from his childhood village of Parra in Goa to illustrate his beliefs about education and societal development. Every harvest season, local children enjoyed watermelon feasts, yet they were instructed to save the seeds from the finest fruits for the next planting. Years later, upon returning home from IIT, he observed a decline in the quality of watermelons. In October 2000, Parrikar made history by becoming the first IITian to serve as Chief Minister of the state and was re-elected for four terms. Bharadwaj expressed his views on social media platform X, stating, “The reality of the Rekha Gupta government has been revealed in the Palam fire case. We have maintained that if the fire brigade equipment, specifically the sky lift, had functioned correctly, nine lives could have been spared. The ministers and the BJP government have consistently misled the public to conceal the failures of the Fire Department.”

He further detailed that critical equipment failed during the emergency response. According to Bharadwaj, the Bronto sky lift was non-operational, and the manual ladder was insufficiently tall to reach those trapped on the balcony. Bharadwaj recounted the tragic circumstances where three young girls, aged six, nine, and twelve, lost their lives while desperately calling for help from the flames.

Findings of the Magisterial Inquiry Report

The Magisterial Inquiry report, which has now been submitted to the Home Department, confirmed that nine individuals, including seven women, perished in the fire, while three others sustained injuries. As noted in the official statement, the inquiry identified significant lapses on the part of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).

Among the critical issues highlighted were regulatory failures, the presence of unauthorised overhead cables, and multiple violations of fire safety regulations. The preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit near the MCB box was likely the cause of the blaze; however, the definitive cause remains undetermined pending forensic analysis.

Additionally, the report emphasised that a substantial quantity of flammable cosmetic products stored in the building exacerbated the fire’s intensity. Concerns were raised regarding the technical abilities of the Assistant Electrical Inspector, who reportedly lacked adequate training to prevent such incidents.

Government Response and Future Measures

The inquiry also noted that the malfunction of the skylift crane during the rescue operations, coupled with the presence of overhead cables, hindered rescue attempts. There were no effective alternative high-rise rescue tools available on-site, which hampered timely assistance for those trapped inside the building.

The Delhi government has stated that it will implement measures in response to the inquiry’s findings. Officials have committed to strengthening the Delhi Fire Services through the recruitment of additional personnel and the upgrading of firefighting equipment.

This situation has prompted serious discussions concerning regulatory practices and adherence to fire safety norms, with the government pledging to take action aimed at preventing future tragedies of this nature. The responses from the government are anticipated to focus on better preparedness and improved protocols for emergency situations.
