Pakistani Senator Mushahid Hussain, representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has attracted attention for his remarks regarding the repayment of a $3.5 billion loan to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He characterised the repayment as an act of kindness, noting that it would benefit the UAE, which he described as currently “in need.” During an interview with Duniya TV, Hussain stated that Pakistan made the right choice to ensure support for their “brothers in the UAE” during this challenging period.

Hussain, who previously served as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, underscored Pakistan’s moral obligation to assist the UAE, citing a history of solid bilateral relations. “We have had enduring ties since the days of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and Pakistan has contributed significantly to the development of the UAE, including the training of its armed forces,” he remarked, emphasising the longstanding partnership between the two nations.

Shift in Foreign Policy Context

The senator’s comments surfaced amid the UAE’s request for repayment of the loan, signalling a potential alteration in the foreign policy stance of both countries.
