Arjun Tendulkar, the 25-year-old left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder and son of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, has reportedly become engaged to Saaniya Chandok, the granddaughter of renowned Mumbai industrialist Ravi Iqbal Ghai. While neither family has released an official statement, multiple reports, including one from India Today, confirm that the couple celebrated the occasion with an intimate gathering attended by only close relatives and friends.
Though the news has taken social media by storm, both the Tendulkar and Ghai families have remained tight-lipped. A source close to the families told NDTV, “No official statement has been released by Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandok’s families yet.” Still, the occasion marks a significant moment in the lives of two young individuals from influential Indian families.
Who Is Saaniya Chandok?
Saaniya Chandok comes from the influential Ghai family, best known for their strong presence in India’s hospitality and food industries. Her grandfather, Ravi Ghai, serves as the chairman of Graviss Hospitality Ltd., a company that owns several prominent ventures including the luxury InterContinental Marine Drive hotel and the health-conscious ice cream brand Brooklyn Creamery.
According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Saaniya is listed as a Designated Partner and Director at Mr. Paws Pet Spa & Store LLP, a premium pet care brand in Mumbai. With a degree from the London School of Economics, she returned to India and launched her business to address the growing demand in the pet care segment. Mr. Paws offers luxury grooming services, including Korean Microbubble Therapy and Japanese CO2 hydrotherapy, and currently operates from two locations in Mumbai.
Despite her family’s stature, Saaniya has opted to lead a life away from the public eye. Her entrepreneurial journey and passion for animals—she owns three dogs—have carved her a distinct identity beyond her family legacy.
Arjun Tendulkar’s Cricketing Path
Meanwhile, Arjun Tendulkar continues to shape his cricket career. After making his domestic debut with Mumbai in the 2020/21 season in a T20 match against Haryana, Arjun transitioned to play for Goa starting from the 2022/23 season in search of more playing opportunities.
In First-Class cricket, he has participated in 17 matches, amassing 532 runs, which include a century and two fifties, alongside taking 37 wickets. His bowling credentials also include a five-wicket haul and two four-wicket innings. In List A formats, he has played 18 matches, taking 25 wickets and scoring 102 runs.
In the shorter format of T20 cricket, Arjun has played 24 games, collecting 27 wickets and scoring 119 runs. His IPL journey began in 2023 with the Mumbai Indians, where he played four matches that season, taking three wickets. Notably, his maiden IPL wicket was India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar during a match against SunRisers Hyderabad.
In 2024, the Mumbai Indians retained him, and in the subsequent mega auction for the 2025 season, the franchise secured his services for ₹30 lakh. His IPL statistics show five matches played, three wickets taken over 73 deliveries, an average of 38.00, an economy rate of 9.36, and a strike rate of 24.3. With the bat, he has scored 13 runs from nine balls, maintaining a strike rate of 144.44.
Private Yet Prominent
According to reports, the engagement was a close-knit event, “a warm, intimate gathering with only close friends and family present.” Despite the low-key nature of the ceremony, the union of two young individuals from such prominent families has generated considerable public interest.
The Ghai family, under Ravi Iqbal Ghai’s leadership, has expanded their business operations both domestically and in international markets, especially in the Middle East. His legacy continues through the efforts of his grandson Shivaan Ghai, the founder of The Brooklyn Creamery, which has grown into a recognized health-focused brand.
Arjun and Saaniya’s engagement is seen as a confluence of sports legacy and business pedigree. While the families may not have publicly confirmed the development, the news has undoubtedly created a buzz across cricketing and business circles.
