Alstom will support six high impact CSR projects in India for the 2020 cycle

Committed to extending its CSR support to local communities, the Alstom Corporate Foundation has announced its final selection of projects from across the world for the 2020 cycle. With a budget of €1.9 million, Alstom Foundation received 167 project submissions from across the world and decided to fund 29 projects from its 2020-21 budget.

Six CSR projects have been selected from India by the Foundation, to be supported especially during the unprecedented period of the pandemic. These projects focus on a wide range of community services – including empowering rural enterprises, water management and supporting education.

Indian projects selected for the 2020/21 cycle are,

– Alstom India’s Kushal Madhepura programme in collaboration with CARE India which is now in Phase 3. This project is dedicated to skill development and providing healthcare facilities to seven villages in Madhepura, Bihar.

– United Way Bangalore’s Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting & Percolation Pits: This initiative focuses on rainwater harvesting technique to meet to growing water needs around Bengaluru, Karnataka.

– Strengthening of rural micro & nano enterprises programme by Technology Informatics Design Endeavour’s (TIDE): The initiative is dedicated to helping rural women develop businesses and micro enterprises around Bengaluru, Karnataka.

– The TARA outreach by ONYVA looks after nurturing children living in the streets around the city of Delhi.

– Objectif France Inde’s Water for Life II – integrated water management programme is in its Phase 3. This project is working on developing sustainable strategies to address rural water needs in India.

– Sree Padma Rani Mary Mahila Mandali’s A Second Change to be in School: This initiative focuses on motivating children to attend schools in Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh.

Over the last three years, the Foundation has been funding several projects in India that were dedicated to skill development, improving education and healthcare among others, which are now being extended. Through consistent efforts, Alstom was instrumental in providing better infrastructural amenities to schools, training programmes for children and spreading awareness on sanitation and hygiene.

In the Madhepura area, healthcare CSR initiatives have benefited more than 10,000 people by helping improve maternal health by 40% and decreasing malnutrition cases by 50%.  Also, Alstom CSR had engaged in providing flood rehabilitation support to over 30,000 people from areas in Kochi, Coorg and Bihar.  The company recently supported around 25,000 people whose livelihoods were disrupted due to COVID-19.

Alstom Foundation has been partnering with NGOs and non-profit organizations from across the world, funding projects, since its inception in 2007, to improving living conditions in communities located near the Group’s facilities and project sites around the world. Projects funded focus on four axes: Mobility, Environmental Protection, Energy & Water, & Socio-Economic Development.
