Allegations of Repeated Rape Rock Panskura Super Speciality Hospital in West Bengal

The CSR Journal Magazine

Panskura, West Bengal: A private company’s facility manager has been detained following a shocking complaint of repeated sexual assault filed by a junior employee, an incident that has sent shockwaves through the Panskura Super Speciality Hospital community and ignited a political firestorm. The accused, whose identity has not been officially released, was apprehended in Kolaghat by Panskura police after a formal written complaint was lodged on Monday.

The victim, a young ward girl from Tamluk, has accused the facility manager of a horrifying pattern of abuse, claiming the assaults occurred multiple times within the government hospital premises. In her statement to the police, she recounted the terrifying threats used to maintain her silence. “He would tell me that if I didn’t get into a relationship with him, he would kill my family and fire me from my job,” she said, describing how she was coerced into a room where the assaults allegedly took place.

Fear and Silence Among Staff

The incident appears to be part of a larger pattern of fear and intimidation. A temporary hospital worker, speaking anonymously, revealed that the accused allegedly had an unauthorized “adda khana,” or hangout spot, inside the hospital where he would stay until late hours, a behavior she described as unusual. She explained that low wages and job insecurity left many employees feeling vulnerable. “We only earn seven to eight thousand rupees. We kept quiet because we were afraid of losing our jobs. But that man was torturing us day after day,” she stated, underscoring the climate of silence that allegedly enabled the abuse.

Political and Community Reaction

The distressing allegations have drawn swift condemnation and political fallout. Local Trinamool Congress (TMC) president Sujit Roy decried the incident as a “shameful act in a government place,” promising the victim the party’s full support and urging police to ensure severe punishment for the perpetrator. The incident has also become a point of political contention, with local BJP leaders launching sharp criticism against the state government and the ruling TMC, demanding accountability and stronger security measures. Meanwhile, junior doctor Aniket Mahato has called on the state government to take proactive steps to enhance security for all healthcare workers, highlighting the need to prevent such incidents from happening again. The investigation is ongoing, and the community awaits further action as this distressing case unfolds.
