Aadhaar Card Address Update Online: A Comprehensive Guide

The CSR Journal Magazine

Updating an Aadhaar card address online has become an accessible process through the official UIDAI portal. Many individuals seek information regarding how to change their Aadhaar address, particularly upon relocating or when corrections are necessary. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) offers the facility to residents for updating their address via the myAadhaar portal, contingent on the submission of valid proof of address. The procedure involves logging in using the Aadhaar number, verifying identity through an OTP, and uploading the necessary documents. Following submission, UIDAI will review and process the update request.

Steps for Updating Your Aadhaar Address Online

To change your Aadhaar address online, follow the steps outlined on the UIDAI website. Begin by accessing the official myAadhaar portal. Click on the “Document Update” option provided on the homepage. Next, enter your Aadhaar number and click ‘Submit.’ You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number to complete the login process. Once logged in, select the option for Address Update. You can choose to update the address using your own documents or through the Head of Family (HoF) method. Enter the new address details and upload an acceptable proof of address document. After ensuring all information is correct, submit the request and save the acknowledgment receipt. Upon successful submission, you will receive a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN), which can be utilized to monitor the status of your Aadhaar address update.

Documents Needed for Address Update

For the online address update process, a valid proof of address document must be uploaded to verify the new address. Commonly accepted documents include an electricity bill, bank statement or passbook, rent agreement, passport, voter ID, or other government-issued documents verifying your address. Ensure that the document clearly displays your name and updated address prior to uploading it.

Duration for Aadhaar Address Update Processing

After submitting the address update request, UIDAI will conduct a verification of the provided details and documents. The entire process for updating the Aadhaar address may take up to 30 days for verification and approval. Once the request is approved, users can download the updated Aadhaar card directly from the UIDAI portal.

Fees and Regulations for Aadhaar Updates

The current online address update feature is available free of charge on the myAadhaar portal until July 14, 2026. However, changes to other demographic details such as names, dates of birth, mobile numbers, or biometric information typically require a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. This may incur fees ranging from Rs 75 to Rs 125 depending on the specific service. Keeping Aadhaar information current is essential to avoid complications when accessing government services, banking, or during identity verification procedures.
