Chennai Super Kings finally broke their losing streak at Chepauk with a commanding 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals in the 18th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 season. The win marked a significant turnaround for CSK, who had endured six consecutive defeats at the venue.

The foundation of CSK’s victory was laid by a spectacular century from Sanju Samson, whose innings powered the team to an imposing total of 212/2 in 20 overs. Samson’s knock combined elegance and aggression, putting the Delhi bowlers under relentless pressure and setting up one of CSK’s strongest totals this season.

In response, Delhi Capitals began their chase with intent, but regular wickets kept derailing their momentum. Pathum Nissanka looked dangerous early on, but his dismissal triggered a series of setbacks. The middle-order resistance came from Tristan Stubbs, who played a valiant knock of 60 runs off 38 balls, keeping DC in the hunt during the latter stages.

However, the turning point came amid controversy when Stubbs was reportedly denied a glove change despite wet conditions, leading to visible frustration in the DC camp. Shortly after, he mistimed a lofted shot and was dismissed, effectively ending Delhi’s hopes of a comeback.

CSK’s bowling unit delivered under pressure, with Jamie Overton emerging as the standout performer. His clever variations and use of cross-seam deliveries fetched him an impressive four-wicket haul, breaking the backbone of Delhi’s batting lineup. Supporting him was Anshul Kamboj, who picked up three crucial wickets, including two in the final over to seal the match.

Young pacer Gurjapneet Singh also impressed with his pace and ability to rush the batters, while sharp fielding efforts, including safe catches by Dewald Brevis, ensured CSK maintained control throughout the innings.

Delhi Capitals were eventually bowled out for 189 in 20 overs, falling short despite moments of resistance. The defeat adds to their struggles, while CSK will take immense confidence from this all-round performance.

This victory not only gives CSK their first points of the season but also reaffirms their dominance over Delhi at Chepauk, having now won eight of their last nine encounters at the venue. With momentum finally on their side, CSK will look to build on this performance as the tournament progresses.
