Smoke Bombs And Flares Inside Serbian Parliament

At least three lawmakers were injured, while one of them sustained serious injuries after a chaotic scene inside the Serbian Parliament. On Tuesday, smoke bombs and flares were thrown inside the parliament amidst fuelling political tension in the Balkan country.
Lawmakers were gathered inside the complex to vote on a law that would increase funding for the university. However, the opposition parties accused the ruling majority of approving dozens of other decisions as well. According to the opposition, it was illegal and lawmakers should first confirm the resignation of Prime Minister Milos Vicevic and his government.

Roots of the Conflict

The conflict first occurred inside the Parliament building amongst the lawmakers, but soon escalated as hundreds of opposition supporters rallied outside the building during the session. Video footages from the scene show a clash that intensified into flare and smoke bombs being thrown. Media also reported that eggs and water bottles were thrown.
Pm Vicevic resigned in January after the government faced protests over the collapse of a concrete train station in November last year. The incident killed 15 people and prompted widespread protest across the nation.
