Famous YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popular as beer biceps on Instagram has been facing major criticism from viewers through his obscene comments on the YouTube programme ‘India’s Got Latent’ with host Samay Raina. The dispute ignited after Allahbadia posed a scandalous question to a show contestant asking “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?” The question remarkably spread online which prompted an intense wave of public condemnation for stronger censorship of online content.
YouTube received an order from the Central government to delete the contentious episode as public backlash began to grow in intensity. Kanchan Gupta, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting shared a screenshot on X and stated, “Video unavailable… This content is not available on the country domain due to a legal complaint from the government.” The centre took this decision because numerous people expressed anger with the vulgar content spreading through social media networks.

Numerous police complaints filed against the accused YouTubers

Several police complaints have been filed in Mumbai and Guwahati against Allahbadia, Samay Raina, another panelist Apoorva Makhija and Ashish Chanchlani who allegedly promoted obscenity. Public concerns about obscene content have escalated to such a degree that police officers have summoned Allahbadia and Raina for questioning. The authorities are conducting their investigation while ordering the social media creators to cooperate.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reacts

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stressed that freedom of speech must be restricted by certain boundaries. He emphasized that no one should enjoy freedom when it harms the rights or dignity of other people. “Everyone has limits, and if anyone crosses them, action should be taken,” Fadnavis remarked. His statement has added to the pressure for stricter control over online content that crosses societal boundaries of decency.

Allahbadia shares an apology video

Allahbadia has offered a public apology to his millions of followers across YouTube and Instagram. Through an apology video published on Monday, the influencer accepted that his speech was unprofessional as well as humourless and improper. “Comedy is not my forte,” he admitted, explaining that the comment was a lapse in judgment and he regretted his actions. His apology, however, did little to quell the growing calls for accountability.
The controversy has sparked wider debates about the type of content that should be allowed on social media platforms, especially when produced by influencers with significant followings. It also highlights the fine line between comedy and respect for societal norms. As the investigation continues, the incident has set the stage for further discussions on the regulation of online content and the responsibilities of creators.
