In anticipation of the BRICS Summit 2026, New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma has confirmed that comprehensive preparations are in place for the event. Sharma stated that the New Delhi district is fully prepared, focusing on aspects of law and order, security, and measures to counter potential threats. According to him, multiple briefings have been held to ensure all personnel are informed and ready for the summit.

Sharma highlighted that senior officers are conducting detailed inspections and briefings to ascertain that every aspect of security is accounted for. The DCP noted that the local police are now in the final stages of planning, with formal arrivals of delegates expected to commence shortly.

The DCP mentioned that security measures include advanced surveillance systems and intelligence operations. He indicated that these arrangements are informed by specific intelligence and relate to various groups potentially attending the summit.

Logistical Arrangements Being Finalised

All logistical aspects have been carefully evaluated, ensuring that requirements for the summit are adequately addressed. With arrivals anticipated from Thursday, Sharma expressed confidence in the readiness of the district’s security protocols. “We are now in the last phase of planning,” he stated, confirming that all preparations are effectively on track.

Sharma further elaborated on the measures being taken to monitor potential security concerns. This includes careful surveillance of social media platforms and proactive neighbourhood patrols to deter any anti-social activities. The DCP assured that police visibility will be enhanced during the summit period to maintain a secure environment.

Alongside surveillance, anti-graffiti patrols are being conducted to deter vandalism, and standard area patrolling protocols will be in effect to ensure foot traffic and vehicular movement remain orderly.

Traffic Management and Advisory Issued

The BRICS Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, a location that will necessitate heightened security measures. As a result, significant traffic regulation measures will affect various key routes across the capital during the summit days. The movement of visiting dignitaries will be closely monitored to ensure minimal disruptions.

In a related development, Delhi Traffic Police announced that traffic management will also be underway in light of canvassing activities associated with the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections on September 9, 2026. Traffic is expected to be affected from 10 am to 6 pm in several areas surrounding North Campus.

Commuters have been advised to avoid impacted routes and use alternative paths to prevent congestion. Additionally, motorists should be patient and adhere to traffic regulations while cooperating with deployed personnel. Emergency vehicles will be afforded necessary access as per the traffic advisory issued by the police.
