A 26-year-old man from Massachusetts has been arrested following allegations of sending a threatening email to Alexis Wilkins, the girlfriend of FBI director Kash Patel. The email reportedly conveyed a disturbing message, expressing a desire to see Wilkins harmed. The suspect, Alden Welch Ruml, is charged with making threats following unrest triggered by a news article that highlighted Patel’s efforts to ensure Wilkins’ safety with the use of FBI resources.

In a particularly alarming message, Ruml wrote that he would feel satisfaction when Wilkins’ face faced severe violence. His email concluded with the phrase, “Watch your back.” After being apprehended, Ruml entered a plea of not guilty during his initial court appearance. If convicted, he may face severe penalties, including a maximum of five years in prison, supervised release for three years, and a potential fine of $250,000.

In the indictment against Ruml, Wilkins was not explicitly named as the victim; she was instead described as an individual associated with a “high-ranking employee in the United States government.” According to court documents, at the time of receiving the threatening email, Wilkins was in Arizona and expressed fear for her safety.
