50 lakes across Hyderabad to be revamped with CSR funds under ‘Lakes Development Programme’

A total of 50 lakes, 25 belonging to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the rest under the jurisdiction of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will be rejuvenated with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds by private companies in Hyderabad. Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development of Telangana, K. T. Rama Rao inaugurated the ‘Lakes Development Programme’ in Hyderabad this week.

“Exciting news for Hyderabad! MA&UD Minister @KTRBRS launched the ‘Lakes Development Programme’ with an aim to revitalize and develop 50 water bodies in and around the city. Let’s support this noble cause and work towards preserving precious water bodies,” the minister’s official page announced on Twitter.

Member of Parliament representing the Chevella constituency, Dr Ranjith Reddy also tweeted, “Participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony for restoration and comprehensive development of #PeddaCheruvu. Many corporate companies have come forward to adopt 50 lakes in #GHMC and #HMDA region and comprehensively restore them.”

Private companies to adopt the lakes

A lot of these are real estate developers. The private companies have adopted these lakes as part of their CSR initiative and will be revamping the same under the supervision of the GHMC and HMDA. At the inauguration event, Minister K. T. Rama Rao handed over MoU certificates to the real estate development companies that have adopted lakes for development.

Additional amenities

However, this is not all. The Telangana minister further announced that under the ‘Lakes Development Programme’, several amenities will be provided including walking tracks, landscaping, open air gyms benches, toilets, additional lights to make evening walks convenient for senior citizens, playing area for children, gazebos, amphitheatre and other facilities.
