The CSR Journal Magazine

The Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, confirmed on February 18 that India has officially set a Guinness World Record for the most pledges received for an artificial intelligence responsibility campaign within a single day. A total of 250,946 valid pledges were recorded from February 16 to 17 during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

This achievement was validated in the presence of various officials, including S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Pravin Patel, a Guinness World Records adjudicator who authenticated the record.

National AI Responsibility Pledge Campaign Launched

The AI Responsibility Pledge campaign was initiated as part of the IndiaAI Mission in partnership with Intel India on February 16. The campaign aimed to mobilise citizens across the country to commit to ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence through a dedicated online portal, aipledge.indiaai.gov.in. Participants were encouraged to consider critical themes such as data privacy, transparency, accountability, and efforts to counter misinformation. The initiative utilized scenario-based questions to engage participants and clarify the importance of building a trustworthy AI ecosystem that places human interests at the forefront.

Minister Highlights Youth Engagement and Public Response

During a media address, Vaishnaw acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of involving young people in the responsible and ethical application of AI. He stated that this vision prompted outreach efforts to educational institutions, urging faculty and students to participate in the pledge, which champions AI as a beneficial technology for society. Vaishnaw expressed gratitude to the 250,000 students who took part, referring to the day as a proud moment for the country and emphasizing the importance of moving towards a future where AI is adopted responsibly.

Exceeding Expectations and Shaping Global AI Discourse

The Union Minister pointed out that the level of participation far surpassed the initial goal of gathering 5,000 pledges. This record-setting involvement illustrates strong public interest and growing awareness regarding the responsible adoption of AI technologies. Vaishnaw remarked that the campaign signifies a pivotal milestone in fostering citizen-led digital responsibility. He asserted that it underscores India’s commitment to influencing global discussions on AI, with a keen emphasis on inclusivity, ethics, and building public trust in technological advancements.
