India and Azerbaijan Explore Strengthening Bilateral Relations

On April 1, in Baku, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Affairs Minister Jeyhun Bayramov welcomed Abhay Kumar, the newly appointed Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan. The meeting focused on reviewing the current state of bilateral relations and identifying potential avenues for future cooperation. Both parties assessed the development prospects of their relationship and discussed mechanisms for addressing existing cooperation as well as differing perspectives.

The meeting highlighted the participation of India’s ONGC Videsh in Azerbaijan’s essential energy assets as an important component of their economic partnership. The ambassador and the minister noted ONGC Videsh’s stake in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) field block and its involvement in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, identifying these projects as significant areas of bilateral cooperation.

Moreover, regional developments, including the situation in the Middle East, were part of the dialogue. Both sides expressed concerns about the ongoing tensions in the region, underscoring the importance of continued dialogue on these matters. India Acknowledges Azerbaijani Support

Ambassador Abhay Kumar conveyed India’s gratitude for Azerbaijan’s assistance during the evacuation of Indian nationals from Iran, acknowledging the supportive relationship between the two countries. Minister Bayramov congratulated Ambassador Kumar on his new appointment, expressing best wishes for his diplomatic endeavors. The ambassador, in turn, thanked the Azerbaijani authorities for their warm reception and highlighted his commitment to enhancing bilateral ties during his tenure.

This meeting marks a continuation of ongoing diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Baku as both nations strive to deepen cooperation in energy, connectivity, and people-centric sectors.
