Nitin Nabin, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has recently articulated his criticisms of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding her disparaging remarks about the Election Commission of India (ECI). This exchange occurred during Nabin’s visit to West Bengal, where he attended various organisational meetings and engaged in public discussions on September 29, 2026. He claimed that Banerjee’s objections arose from frustration related to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.

The BJP leader stated that Banerjee’s actions reflected a selective acceptance of the Election Commission’s integrity based on electoral outcomes. He pointed out that Congress-affiliated members only criticise the ECI following defeats in West Bengal and Gujarat, while remaining silent after victories in states like Kerala and Karnataka. According to Nabin, such inconsistent standards would not be sustainable.

Progress Under Current Leadership

Nabin expressed optimism about the direction of West Bengal, attributing positive changes to the governance of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He cited interactions with youth during his visit, where he noted a prevailing sense of hope and engagement. The BJP President asserted that the commitments outlined in the BJP’s manifesto are being successfully addressed under the current leadership, reinforcing a strategy of restoring trust within the community.

“In my visit to West Bengal,” Nabin observed, “I came across a renewed hope among the youth. The state, renowned for its vast cultural and artistic heritage, is set to reclaim its former glory. The youth’s enthusiasm and active participation in various developmental initiatives hint at a promising future,” he stated. The BJP leader celebrated the efforts of Suvendu Adhikari in executing the pledges made, calling it a significant achievement for the party.

At the Yuva Samvad Conclave held in Kolkata, Nabin emphasised the importance of fostering an environment characterised by trust and transparency. He urged the Chief Minister to prioritise comprehensive youth policies alongside advancements in the sports arena, believing that these efforts could be instrumental in overcoming negative narratives spread via social media.

Empowering the Youth of West Bengal

The BJP President further characterised the youth of West Bengal not merely as job seekers, but as potential job creators, reflecting the broader vision of an entrepreneurial spirit local to the region. He pointed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives in establishing a robust startup ecosystem across India, which has seen the emergence of over 250,000 startups and 125 unicorns.

“Nabin’s assertion that today’s youth are not merely passive recipients of employment opportunities is indicative of a shift towards promoting self-sufficiency and innovation,” stated a senior party member. Nabin also hinted that substantial support would be necessary for young entrepreneurs to flourish and contribute to the state’s economy moving forward.

During his two-day event in West Bengal, Nabin was not only engaged in political dialogues but also comfortably interacted with locals, demonstrating a relatable image. His observance of traditional street food, such as Jhalmuri, reflected an effort to connect with the region’s culture while promoting his message of growth and hope.
