The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) chief spokesperson, Saurav Das, has cautioned newly appointed Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi that “the youth are watching,” pressing for the implementation of the organisation’s five-point education reform charter. This warning followed the cessation of a 37-day protest after the central government provided certain assurances. Das expressed that the nationwide movement highlighted the young generation’s demand for accountability from government officials.

Speaking to ANI, Das stated that the earlier agitation had resonated deeply with youth across India, resulting in substantial backing for their cause. He urged Joshi, or any future education minister, to prioritise the interests of young people and halt examination paper leaks. The CJP is set to meet with the new minister soon, with the government promising a meeting within the coming month.

Resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan Seen as Historic Victory

Reflecting on the movement’s outcome, Das characterised the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan as a significant victory for students and young people nationwide. He asserted this moment would be remembered in history, marking the government’s acceptance of students’ concerns after over a decade of steadfastness against resignations.

The assurances given included the withdrawal of FIRs against protesters and a commitment to provide compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of students who lost their lives due to the paper leak incidents. Das highlighted the transformation this movement created within society, inviting supporters to celebrate the outcome peacefully and return home.

Das’s remarks instilled hope for renewed freedom and a departure from an atmosphere of fear. He noted that the government had previously stifled dissent, and today’s developments reflect a shift in power dynamics, urging youth to remain unified and vigilant.

Legal Actions Planned Against Police Behaviour During Protests

Das announced plans for legal action against Delhi police and Rapid Action Force personnel, who the CJP alleged used excessive force during protests on July 20. He specified that all officers identified for physical aggression against protesters would face legal consequences, asserting the organisation’s commitment to holding law enforcement accountable.

In a separate meeting with Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, Das described the discussions as productive, noting a mix of cooperation and discord during the events leading up to the resolution. He acknowledged that while there had been challenges, the overall interaction was amicable, laying a foundation for more constructive future engagements.

CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka echoed Das’s sentiments, emphasising the acknowledgement of police cooperation while addressing the unfortunate events that transpired during protests. The resolution of demands, including the withdrawal of various FIRs, marked a hopeful turning point for future discussions.

Restoration of Services and Tribute to Activist Sonam Wangchuk

Following the withdrawal of the agitation, mobile internet services were reinstated around Jantar Mantar after days of disruption, and normal operations resumed on the Delhi Metro network. Entry gates at all stations reopened, reflecting a return to normalcy after a period of heightened tensions.

The CJP’s decision to cease protests came after the central government confirmed it would address key issues, including compensation for families of NEET aspirants affected by suicide, and committing to discussions on a broader educational reform agenda. A follow-up meeting is expected within four weeks.

The organisation acknowledged the efforts of activist Sonam Wangchuk, crediting his 26-day satyagraha as the moral impetus that inspired national awareness. Wangchuk welcomed the developments as a victory for democracy, encouraging students to remain humble and focused on continuous efforts towards educational and governmental reforms.
