Apple Set to Launch First Foldable iPhone in 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple is preparing to mark its 50th anniversary with a significant product launch, anticipated to be its inaugural foldable iPhone. As it enters the foldable smartphone market, the iPhone fold is projected to feature a book-style design. Leaked images suggest that it could have a broader profile compared to existing foldable devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Reports indicate the device will include a 7.8-inch crease-less OLED inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen, aiming to offer a compact design. Both displays are expected to have punch-hole cutouts for selfie cameras, omitting the Face ID feature, which may help maintain a sleeker profile. However, Touch ID integration is anticipated on the power button. Furthermore, the iPhone fold may incorporate a Liquid Metal hinge, potentially enhancing durability and marking its first use of this material in an iPhone.

Specifications Expected for the Foldable iPhone

The foldable iPhone is anticipated to run on Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro chipset, which may also power the iPhone 18 Pro models. Speculations suggest that it could feature 12GB of RAM and offer various storage options, including 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB configurations. A significant highlight of this device will be its 5,500mAh battery, which is projected to be the largest ever used in an iPhone. In terms of camera specifications, in addition to the dual selfie cameras, the iPhone fold is expected to boast a dual-camera system on the rear, bringing the total camera count to four. It is also likely to introduce new multitasking functionalities similar to those found in iPadOS, although it will operate on iOS.

Launch Timeline and Pricing Expectations

The anticipated launch date for the iPhone fold is likely to fall in September 2026, coinciding with the unveiling of the iPhone 18 Pro models. As for pricing, it is expected to be positioned at a premium level, with rumors suggesting a starting price of approximately $2,400, which translates to around Rs 2,15,000 in the Indian market. For context, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is available in India starting at Rs 1,74,999.
