Uttarakhand Government to Build Mini Stadiums in Every Block

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Wednesday the government’s plan to construct mini stadiums in every block throughout the state. This initiative is part of the budget provisions for the financial year 2026-27 aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure at the grassroots level.

Announcement During Gairsain Budget Session

The announcement was made during the ongoing Budget Session in Gairsain, specifically on the third day of proceedings. Following the successful hosting of the 38th National Games, the Uttarakhand government is intensifying its efforts to improve sports facilities, encouraging greater participation in athletic activities among the youth.

Boost After Success at National Games

As stated by Chief Minister Dhami, the construction of mini stadiums is a crucial step in this sports development program. The recent National Games, held in 2025, marked a significant achievement for Uttarakhand, where the state won a total of 103 medals, establishing itself as a rising star in the sporting arena.

Infrastructure to Become Training Academies

In preparation for the National Games, the Uttarakhand government invested in international-level sports infrastructure across the state. This investment has been framed within a legacy policy designed to convert these facilities into training academies, ensuring that local talents receive proper coaching and mentorship. Efforts to advance this legacy are actively underway by state officials.

Land and Budget for Mini Stadiums

During the session, Sports Minister Rekha Arya addressed questions regarding sports grounds and mini stadiums, particularly focusing on their development in hilly regions. She clarified that the requirement for a mini stadium in such areas spans approximately 1.18 acres of land, with an allocated budget of ₹1.70 crore for its construction.

Promoting Grassroots Sports Culture

The commitment to building these mini stadiums reflects a broader strategy to foster sports culture in Uttarakhand and make competitive sports more accessible to young athletes. The state’s government aims to ensure each block has adequate sports facilities to encourage participation and nurture talent.

Vision to Make Uttarakhand a Sports Hub

This initiative marks a significant shift in sports policy, as the government seeks to capitalize on the momentum generated by recent sporting events. With the 38th National Games serving as a benchmark, the focus is now on sustaining this enthusiasm and enhancing the infrastructure necessary for long-term development in sports.

All these measures are part of an overarching goal to elevate Uttarakhand’s standing as a prominent destination for sports in India, closely aligning with the central government’s vision of promoting sports at all levels. As plans progress for these mini stadiums, the state looks forward to a brighter future for its sports community.
