The daughter of a Delhi Police officer, who sustained injuries during a recent student protest, has claimed that her father was nearly lynched by demonstrators. She stated that the incident has caused severe distress within the family, as her father is reportedly unconscious at home following the event. This revelation came during a press conference held by the family to share their experiences related to the protest.

She elaborated that her father was stationed at the frontlines when violence erupted, noting that he often expressed doubts about the nature of the protest, stating it did not resemble a typical student demonstration. The family member recalled her father’s accurate predictions regarding the events, adding to their anxiety during the turmoil.

Details of the Incident Provided by Family

In detailing the events of the day, the family member described how her father was allegedly pulled by a mob around 2 pm and faced severe physical aggression. She recounted the distressing sight of her father’s bloodied uniform upon his return, stating, “It was very painful for us to see him in that condition.” The family has been grappling with the consequences of the assault, which has left the police officer unable to communicate effectively.

The family member indicated that, despite his condition, her father initially attempted to reassure them, saying, “Beta, minor injuries are part of the job.” However, as the reality of his injuries set in, it became clear that the situation was far more serious than he had let on at the time.

She also expressed the psychological toll the incident has had on the family, noting that the police officer’s injuries not only affected him physically but have also caused deep emotional distress for the entire household. They are left to navigate the ramifications of the attack while supporting one another through this difficult period.

Concerns Over Public Perception and Media Representation

The family is questioning the broader public narrative that has emerged in the aftermath of the protest. They have characterised the portrayal of the protesters on social media as victim-centric, while the violence against police personnel has largely been overlooked. “Social media was saying it was a crime against the protesters, but what I saw was those who attacked the same person are now going to the Supreme Court,” the family member remarked.

Additionally, she emphasized that their family also has rights and deserves justice in the face of the violence endured by their loved one. “We also have equal rights. We also deserve justice,” she insisted, making it clear that the family feels their plight has been overshadowed by the narrative surrounding the protesters.

In conclusion, the family’s plea highlights the complexities surrounding the recent protests and the impact on both law enforcement and the demonstrators involved. They hope that their story will bring attention to the vulnerabilities faced by police personnel during civil unrest and assert the need for justice on behalf of the injured officer.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has sharply condemned the Delhi government and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in response to the District Magistrate’s report concerning the Palam fire that occurred on March 18, which resulted in the deaths of nine people. Saurabh Bharadwaj, President of AAP’s Delhi unit, stated that lives could have been saved if proper fire-fighting equipment had been operational during the incident.

Bharadwaj expressed his views on social media platform X, stating, “The reality of the Rekha Gupta government has been revealed in the Palam fire case. We have maintained that if the fire brigade equipment, specifically the sky lift, had functioned correctly, nine lives could have been spared. The ministers and the BJP government have consistently misled the public to conceal the failures of the Fire Department.”

He further detailed that critical equipment failed during the emergency response. According to Bharadwaj, the Bronto sky lift was non-operational, and the manual ladder was insufficiently tall to reach those trapped on the balcony. Bharadwaj recounted the tragic circumstances where three young girls, aged six, nine, and twelve, lost their lives while desperately calling for help from the flames.

Findings of the Magisterial Inquiry Report

The Magisterial Inquiry report, which has now been submitted to the Home Department, confirmed that nine individuals, including seven women, perished in the fire, while three others sustained injuries. As noted in the official statement, the inquiry identified significant lapses on the part of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).

Among the critical issues highlighted were regulatory failures, the presence of unauthorised overhead cables, and multiple violations of fire safety regulations. The preliminary investigation suggests that an electrical short circuit near the MCB box was likely the cause of the blaze; however, the definitive cause remains undetermined pending forensic analysis.

Additionally, the report emphasised that a substantial quantity of flammable cosmetic products stored in the building exacerbated the fire’s intensity. Concerns were raised regarding the technical abilities of the Assistant Electrical Inspector, who reportedly lacked adequate training to prevent such incidents.

Government Response and Future Measures

The inquiry also noted that the malfunction of the skylift crane during the rescue operations, coupled with the presence of overhead cables, hindered rescue attempts. There were no effective alternative high-rise rescue tools available on-site, which hampered timely assistance for those trapped inside the building.

The Delhi government has stated that it will implement measures in response to the inquiry’s findings. Officials have committed to strengthening the Delhi Fire Services through the recruitment of additional personnel and the upgrading of firefighting equipment.

This situation has prompted serious discussions concerning regulatory practices and adherence to fire safety norms, with the government pledging to take action aimed at preventing future tragedies of this nature. The responses from the government are anticipated to focus on better preparedness and improved protocols for emergency situations.

A four-storey building in Geeta Colony, East Delhi, tilted on the evening of July 27, 2026, prompting urgent evacuation measures for all its inhabitants. According to police reports, the incident triggered a rapid response and led to the successful removal of all residents safely. Following the tilt, the area surrounding the building was cordoned off to ensure safety, and those living in adjacent structures were instructed to stay clear of the affected site.

Among those evacuated was an elderly woman who reportedly sustained a spinal injury. Local authorities confirmed that she had been unable to move independently, highlighting the urgency of the rescue operation. Eyewitnesses noted that the tilt became apparent after an overhang above the second-floor balcony collapsed due to heavy rains, raising concerns about the building’s structural integrity.

Residents described how they first observed the building leaning, with one local, identified as Ravi, expressing worry about the elderly woman and her son living on the second floor. He indicated that efforts to ascertain their situation were challenging as visibility into the upper parts of the structure was limited. Ravi noted, “The building is tilting. It is leaning from the back side and from this side as well.” The local community had raised concerns about the building condition previously.

Community Concerns and Prior Complaints

Local residents revealed that they had previously submitted multiple complaints regarding the state of the building. They indicated that despite the police visiting the site to document the structure through videos and photographs, no significant action was taken to address the building’s deteriorating condition. Ravi emphasised, “We had submitted complaints earlier. The police had also come, made videos and took photographs, but no action was taken,” referring to the building’s approximately 30 to 35-year-old construction.

The community’s frustrations reflect the broader concerns about building safety and structural inspections in the area. Their prior complaints were aimed at preventing incidents such as this, indicating a worrying trend regarding maintenance and oversight of older residential buildings. The situation highlights a need for rigorous evaluation and intervention from local authorities before tragedies occur.

Visuals from the incident scene depicted the four-storey building, which features shuttered shops on the ground floor and residential units above, leaning precariously towards one side. Police personnel were visible on site, managing the crowd and ensuring that safety protocols were strictly followed, as onlookers were kept at a safe distance from the teetering structure.

Safety Measures and Future Implications

Following the evacuation, police officials confirmed that all occupants were successfully moved to safety, and immediate measures were implemented to seal off the area to prevent any further risks. Local authorities have taken steps to consult with structural engineers for a more detailed assessment of the building’s condition. Their investigation aims to determine if the structure poses ongoing risks or if further evacuations are necessary for neighbouring buildings.

The incident serves as a critical reminder of the importance of regular building inspections and maintenance, particularly in areas prone to heavy rainfall and other environmental factors. Such events call for revisiting regulations surrounding construction standards, especially for older edifices to enhance resident safety.

As investigations continue, local officials emphasised that they would work closely with engineering teams to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future, demonstrating the need for robust community engagement in safety issues surrounding residential infrastructures.

The Pink Saheli Smart Card, recently introduced for women in Delhi, is set to enhance the commuter experience by enabling free travel not only on DTC buses but also by functioning as a debit card. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has ensured that this card aligns with the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework, allowing its use across multiple platforms including malls, shops, the Delhi Metro, and Namo Bharat trains.

Digital Application Process for Card Issuance

Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh has stated that the application for the Pink Saheli Smart Card will be facilitated through a fully digital process. Women interested in obtaining the card must apply via the online portal belonging to DTC’s designated banking partner. Essential documents required include an Aadhaar card with a Delhi address, a passport-sized photograph, and additional personal information. A PAN card may also be necessary, depending on individual circumstances.

Following the completion of a Video KYC (Know Your Customer) verification process, the card will be dispatched directly to the applicant’s residence, streamlining the entire application experience.

There are two distinct variants of the Pink Saheli Smart Card available. The first variant is the Zero KYC Card, which can be obtained instantly via Aadhaar and OTP verification, primarily for free bus travel. The second variant, known as the Full KYC Card, provides banking services and can be used as a typical debit card.

How the Card Functions for Commuters

According to the Transport Department, women will need to tap the Pink Saheli Smart Card on the ticket machine when boarding DTC buses to receive a free travel ticket, consistent with existing procedures. For those who wish to use the card for transactions within the Delhi Metro, Namo Bharat trains, or at retail outlets, it is required that users first load money onto the card through their bank account or UPI services.

Further, it has been confirmed by DTC that from August 1, only valid Pink Saheli Smart Cards will allow women to access free travel on DTC buses. Women without a valid card will not qualify for the free travel provision. An awareness campaign has been initiated across buses and depots to inform the public about these changes.

Distinguishing Features of the Smart Cards for Different Users

The DTC has categorised the smart cards by colour, tailoring them to various passenger demographics. Pink cards are issued specifically for women, blue cards are designated for general passengers, while orange cards are intended for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. However, the rollout of the orange cards is still pending, according to official statements from the department.

This systematic approach aims to provide clear identification for different passenger groups while streamlining the experience across Delhi’s transportation network. As the implementation date approaches, the DTC emphasises the importance of compliance among women passengers with the new card system.

The introduction of the Pink Saheli Smart Card marks a significant step towards improving transportation accessibility for women in Delhi, integrating modern technology with public transport services.

Rainfall occurred across numerous regions of Delhi on July 27, 2026, easing the discomfort from the prevailing hot and humid conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed this in their daily weather bulletin, which noted the likelihood of continued light rain and thunderstorms in the coming days. Residents noted a noticeable drop in both temperature and humidity levels following the rainfall.

Temperature Insights

The IMD reported that the maximum temperature in Delhi reached 38.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 28.6 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung observatory. These temperatures are expected to decrease by two to three degrees Celsius over the next six days, according to weather forecasts. Such a reduction can be beneficial for residents accustomed to the oppressive heat experienced in recent weeks.

The meteorological agency also indicated that on the evening of July 27, light to very light rain would continue, accompanied by thunderstorms. Winds are expected to blow at a speed of 20-30 kmph, which may provide some respite from the sticky weather.

Forecasts for July 28 predict generally cloudy skies with one or two short periods of light rain at many locations. Furthermore, moderate rainfall is anticipated at select areas during the morning until noon, followed by another spell of rain likely in the evening or nighttime. These conditions indicate an ongoing trend of fluctuating weather, which is a welcome change for the city’s inhabitants.

Warnings and Precautions

The IMD has also cautioned people about potential disruptions caused by the rain, particularly for commuters. Authorities advise checking current traffic conditions before travelling and avoiding known areas that are prone to waterlogging. This precaution is essential, as heavy rains can lead to significant disruptions in urban settings, affecting daily activities and transport.

Additionally, there is a forecast for moderate rainfall on July 29, with light to moderate rainfall expected in various locations throughout the day. This pattern may lead to progressive improvements in air quality, which has been a concern during the heat wave. The combination of rain and lower temperatures may enhance overall living conditions in the metropolis.

In summary, the recent rainfall in Delhi signifies a shift towards more pleasant weather, according to official meteorological reports. The IMD’s continuous updates and alerts play a vital role in assisting residents to adapt to these changing conditions and plan accordingly for the days ahead. Such weather changes highlight the dynamic nature of the Indian monsoon season, which can substantially influence the daily lives of those in the region.
