Sunny Deol-Starrer ‘Jaat’ Struggles at Box Office on Weekend

Despite the buzz around Sunny Deol’s return to the big screen, Jaat has had a rocky start at the box office. Released on April 10, the film failed to generate momentum in its first two days, collecting just Rs 16.5 crore nett domestically. Hopes now rest on the weekend to bring in much-needed numbers.

Directed by Telugu filmmaker Gopichand Malineni in his Hindi debut, Jaat is an intense action drama that showcases Deol as Brigadier Baldev Pratap Singh a fearless officer torn between personal loss and national responsibility. The film also stars Randeep Hooda, whose portrayal of the brooding Ranatunga has earned praise. Supporting roles are filled by a strong ensemble including Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Vineet Kumar Singh, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu.

Film’s First Day Collection

On opening day, the film earned Rs 9.5 crore, according to data from Sacnilk. The momentum dipped slightly on Day 2, with collections dropping to Rs 7 crore. Despite limited initial traction, Jaat did see increased occupancy during evening and night shows, particularly in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, and regions of NCR.

Internationally, the film has garnered approximately Rs 2.5–3 crore, bringing its global total to an estimated Rs 22–23 crore in two days. These numbers are modest, especially when compared to Deol’s 2023 blockbuster Gadar 2, which crossed Rs 100 crore worldwide within the same timeframe.

Industry Analysts Stance on Movie

Industry analysts point out that the timing of Jaat’s release may have affected its performance. Salman Khan’s high-budget entertainer Sikandar, released around Eid, overshadowed Jaat with a massive Rs 26 crore opening and higher occupancy rates. Backed by a Rs 150 crore budget and aggressive marketing, Sikandar continues to draw larger crowds.

Made on a reported Rs 100 crore budget and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Zee Studios, and People Media Factory, Jaat needs a substantial boost over the weekend to break even. While critics have offered mixed reviews, audiences have responded positively to its patriotic theme and Deol’s commanding screen presence. Whether Jaat can recover and turn its fortunes around remains to be seen in the coming days.
