Protest Erupts in Lucknow Following Jumma Prayers Over Middle East Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

A protest took place at the Bara Imambara in Lucknow on Friday, immediately after the Jumma prayers. The gathering was spearheaded by Shia cleric Kalbe Jawad Naqvi, who expressed strong criticism against the United States regarding its role in the ongoing conflict involving Iran. In a statement, Naqvi remarked on the vulnerability of Iran, accusing the U.S. of aggressive military actions and highlighting the perceived lack of condemnation from the Indian government.

Call for International Action

During his address, Naqvi emphasized that, “Iran is totally defenseless; America is dropping bombs on it and attacking the public.” He expressed disappointment over India’s lack of supportive action towards Iran, adding that the Iranian stance towards India has been remarkably gracious, allowing the nation to use its oil ships. He urged that America should be prevented from its military actions and suggested a global boycott of the U.S. and Israel if such actions continue. Further, Naqvi called for India to adopt a firmer position in international affairs in support of Iran.

Discussion of Diplomatic Relations

In response to inquiries about the timing of a recent conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Naqvi criticized the delay, asserting that timely dialogue had significant importance, and stated, “The Prime Minister should have talked earlier; now there is no meaning to this.” This remark highlights the urgency felt by protestors for more immediate diplomatic engagement on the matter.

Enhanced Security Measures in Uttar Pradesh

Coinciding with the Jumma prayers, state authorities implemented extensive security protocols across various regions in Uttar Pradesh. In Sambhal, police were deployed around the Shahi Jama Masjid as a measure to ensure the safety of congregants during prayers. Additional forces were positioned in sensitive areas to maintain order amid the observance of the final Jumma Namaz of Ramzan.

Police On Alert for Potential Disruptions

Assistant Superintendent of Police North, Kuldeep Singh, indicated that measures were in place for the Alvida Jumma prayers, including the deployment of two companies from the Provincial Armed Constabulary, alongside civil police personnel. He assured that senior officers would remain vigilant and in communication during the prayer hours. Singh mentioned active monitoring of social media for any signs of unrest or rumour-mongering, warning that legal actions would be taken against any unlawful conduct. Drones were also employed to enhance situational awareness.

Similar Precautions in Kanpur

In Kanpur, police have been stationed at various locations as part of security arrangements. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal noted that personnel are utilizing surveillance through drones and cameras to effectively manage the crowds participating in prayers. This initiative aims to ensure that the observance takes place without any incidents.

Observances Beyond Uttar Pradesh

Meanwhile, devotees also participated in the last Jumma Namaz of Ramzan in Patna, Bihar, as part of the ongoing religious observances. Authorities have underscored the importance of security and proper management during this significant period for the Muslim community.
