Nana Patekar’s Legacy Continues With Five Unreleased Films

The CSR Journal Magazine

Nana Patekar’s death at the age of 75 has marked the end of a distinguished acting career; however, audiences will still have the chance to experience his performances in five films that are yet to be released. Among these projects is Shakti Shalini, which is anticipated to be Patekar’s final appearance on the big screen. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, this horror-comedy is part of the Maddock Films production line and features actors Aneet Padda and Vishal Jethwa in essential roles.

The plot revolves around an ordinary woman named Shakti, who takes on the role of protector for Shalini, a vengeful spirit. While details of Patekar’s character have not been extensively shared, reports suggest that he portrays an occultist. He completed filming his segments before he passed, and Sarpotdar later noted Patekar’s enthusiasm to view the final cut and participate in dubbing, illustrating his dedication to the project. Although the film was initially slated for release on December 24, 2026, adjustments to the schedule may occur.

Eetha: A Cultural Biopic

Eetha is another film in Patekar’s unreleased lineup, directed by Laxman Utekar. It draws its narrative from the life of Vithabai Narayangaonkar, a renowned folk artist from Maharashtra associated with Tamasha and Lavani. Featuring Shraddha Kapoor in the lead role and co-starring Randeep Hooda, Anant Joshi, and Nana Patekar, the film chronicles the journey of this influential figure in Maharashtra’s folk culture.

While Shraddha Kapoor is the film’s primary focus, public details regarding Patekar’s character remain limited. Set to be released in theatres on December 4, 2026, this biographical drama will provide another opportunity for viewers to witness Patekar in a culturally rich context that aligns with Maharashtra’s artistic heritage.

The Confession of Mary: A Gritty Crime Drama

In The Confession of Mary, Patekar assumes the role of Father Benedict, a Catholic priest embroiled in controversy after being accused of a woman’s murder. Directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, this crime drama takes inspiration from the infamous Madatharuvi murder case that occurred in Kerala in 1966, which involved the killing of Mariyakutty and the subsequent allegations against a priest.

The film also stars Adil Hussain, Ashish Vidyarthi, Gautam Rode, Joy Sengupta, and Neha Mahajan. Its narrative raises challenging questions surrounding faith, justice, and the implications of wrongful accusations. The film has earned a spot for screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, and co-producer Subhash Kale mentioned that Patekar was expected to return to Mumbai for dubbing shortly before his death.

Kuku Ki Kundali and Vedanta: Additional Projects

Another notable title on Patekar’s unreleased list is Kuku Ki Kundali, a romantic comedy directed by Sharan Sharma. Featuring Bhuvan Bam and Wamiqa Gabbi alongside Patekar, the storyline reportedly deals with the intricacies of a romantic relationship affected by horoscopes, creating tension between couples and their families. Further specifications regarding Patekar’s role and the film’s release date have yet to be disclosed.

Lastly, Vedanta, directed by Rajeshwar Pandey Raaj, is notable for having limited information available about its plot and Patekar’s character. This film, which features actors Vikrant Massey, Sandeepa Dhar, and Mukesh Tiwari, stands out as one of the lesser-known entries in Patekar’s remaining filmography. Additional details from the filmmakers are anticipated.

Overall, the impending release of these five films ensures that Nana Patekar’s artistic presence will be felt even after his passing. The array of different genres and collaborations reflect the diverse range of projects he continued to undertake throughout his later career.
