The Thakurdwara Temple in Amritsar’s Khandwala area experienced an explosion in the early hours of March 15 that shook the community. CCTV footage showed two motorcyclists who tossed an explosive toward the Thakurdwara Temple. The incident struck the temple during the late night hours of 12:35 am, therefore causing harm to the temple surface areas, alongside the windows. The powerful explosion managed to occur without causing any casualties. The religious officials present inside the temple managed to stay safe when the blast occurred.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar has pointed to a possible link between the attack and Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. “We have launched an immediate investigation and are examining the CCTV footage,” Bhullar said, suggesting that Pakistan may be attempting to destabilise the region. He also warned the youth against falling into the trap of creating disturbances, stating, “We will catch the culprits soon.”
Similar Attacks Recorded at Golden Temple
The incident follows a string of similar attacks in the region, including an earlier assault at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, where five people were injured. The growing number of violent incidents has raised alarms about the state’s law and order situation, prompting political reactions from various quarters. Opposition parties, including the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), have condemned the attack as a serious blow to religious harmony and public safety. SAD officials have called for a judicial inquiry into the matter, claiming that this is part of a larger attempt to destabilise Punjab.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, however, defended the law and order situation in the state, pointing to the efforts of the Punjab Police in handling such challenges. He acknowledged that there are attempts to disturb the peace, but insisted that Punjab remains safer compared to other states. “There are always efforts to disrupt the peace in Punjab, but our law and order is under control,” Mann said, referring to the state’s relative stability despite ongoing challenges.

In the wake of this attack, the Punjab Police are intensifying their investigation. They are analysing the available evidence, including CCTV footage, and are committed to identifying and arresting those responsible. Authorities have urged the public to stay calm as they work to restore security and prevent further violence.
