Gomti Riverfront In Lucknow Closed Due To Waterlogging

The CSR Journal Magazine

The district administration has announced the closure of the Gomti Riverfront in Lucknow. This decision follows significant rainfall in the region, which has led to waterlogging on pathways and surrounding areas. The announcement was made by the Lucknow Development Authority, reinforcing concerns over public safety due to the rising water levels.

The closure is effective immediately and will remain until further notice. The notice also indicated that all ticketing services will be suspended during this period, preventing visitors from entering the riverfront area.

Authorities have confirmed that, as of now, no damage to property has been recorded. The focus is entirely on ensuring the safety of the public visiting the popular riverfront.

Impact of Recent Rainfall on River Levels

The Lucknow Development Authority specified that this condition has necessitated the precautionary measure of closing the riverfront to avoid any potential hazards. Public safety remains the primary concern during this period of elevated water levels.

As of October 2, 2026, conditions have not indicated any long-term structural impacts, but authorities are remaining vigilant and monitoring the situation closely.

Efforts To Protect Nearby Structures

In related developments, authorities in Barabanki are actively protecting the Baba Narayan Das Temple from erosion caused by the Saryu River. Following a decrease in the river’s water level, concerns have arisen over bank erosion in the area.

Shashi Kant Singh, the Executive Engineer of the Flood Division in Barabanki, reported that the river’s depth has caused erosion extending about 12 to 15 meters inward. Singh explained that this phenomenon often occurs when water levels subside, pulling boulders and debris towards the riverbank.

The temple has been declared safe by Singh, who added that the rate of water level decline is significant in the area. He noted that continuous monitoring is essential and that necessary materials, such as boulders and debris, are being provided to stabilise the bank.

Singh also praised the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, including his team, local workers, and community members, highlighting the effective coordination to safeguard the temple’s structure so far.
