DTC to Integrate All Buses under Single Bus Management System

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has asked its managers to ensure that all buses in the fleet are integrated into a single Bus Management system (BMS) dashboard, monitored through a control and command centre on a real-time basis. This is done to ensure the safety of passengers,  avoid accidents and stop drivers from speeding..

The BMS initiative was introduced last year by the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) transport Minister Kailash Gehlot for monitoring buses by the use of GPS data. The initiative was an effort towards stopping drivers of DTC buses from speeding, jumping red lights, and not stopping at designated bus stops.

“The object of the BMS dashboard was to compare the performance of depot using key performance indicators and to take corrective measures for any underperforming depot ,” said an official

Around 80 TATA buses had to be integrated with the BMS. The strategic business unit has been instructed to issue necessary directions to the Tata group to immediately share details of their buses with the BMS vendor and ensure that the integration is completed without any delay. Alongside, depot managers are also directed to verify the functioning of the intelligent transport system (ITS) devices on the buses.

There are a total of 2,152 electric buses in Delhi, out of which 1,752 buses are run by DTC and 400 are run under the DIMTS cluster scheme.
