Drunk Driver Causes Fatal Accident in Vadodara, 1 Dead & Several Injured

A horrific road accident occurred late Thursday night in Vadodara, Gujarat, when a 20-year-old drunk driver lost control of his car, crashing into multiple vehicles and causing one death along with several injuries. The crash took place near Amrapali Chaar Rasta in the Karelibag area, a busy intersection in the city.
The car, driven by Rakshit Chaurasia, was speeding at 120 km/h when it struck two scooters, dragging the riders along before stopping. Hemaliben Patel, a woman on one of the scooters, died instantly, while her 12-year-old daughter and three others, including a 40-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries. Emergency services quickly transported the victims to a nearby hospital.

Video of the Accused Goes Viral

The incident has drawn attention due to the disturbing behaviour of the driver following the crash. Video footage shows Chaurasia, visibly intoxicated, stumbling out of the severely damaged car. He was heard shouting incoherently, saying “another round” and chanting “Om Namah Shivay” as he walked around the crash site. His actions, in the presence of injured victims and concerned bystanders, have caused outrage among the public.
Chaurasia, who hails from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and is studying law in Vadodara, was arrested after the incident. His co-passenger, Mit Chauhan, the car’s owner, was also arrested. Chauhan, a student from Vadodara, fled the scene but was soon apprehended by police. Authorities confirmed that Chaurasia was heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash. They are now investigating whether other substances were involved, though Chaurasia did have a valid driving license.

FIR Filed, Investigation Still Ongoing

The police have filed an FIR and are analysing CCTV footage from the scene as part of the investigation. Local law enforcement, led by Joint Commissioner Leena Patil, has confirmed that the accident was caused by drunk driving. “The accused has been caught, and we are continuing our probe,” said Patil. As the investigation unfolds, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence.
