A wedding celebration in Maharashtra’s Amravati district took a horrifying turn when the groom, Sujal Ram Samudra, 22, was attacked and stabbed on stage in full view of guests. The incident occurred at Sahil Lawn on Badnera Road, where a drone filming the ceremony recorded the entire assault and even followed the fleeing attackers.
Groom Injured, Father Targeted in Wedding Stabbing
Police identified the main accused as Ragho Jitendra Bakshi, who allegedly approached the groom during the event and stabbed him three times with an iron knife, causing deep injuries to his thigh and knee. The same footage also captured Bakshi’s attempted attack on the groom’s father, Ramji Samudra, before he escaped the scene.
The drone video, which began recording the wedding stage, continued to track the man wearing an orange hoodie as he ran from the venue. It followed him to the exit, where another person dressed in black joined him on a parked motorcycle. Despite one relative’s effort to stop them, both men fled, with the drone managing to trace their route for nearly two kilometres before losing sight of them.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Sunil Chauhan, the drone operator’s quick thinking proved invaluable. “The drone operator’s alertness has been extremely helpful to us,” he said. “The video will significantly aid in identifying and locating the accused.” The footage, which clearly shows the suspect’s face and his escape path, has been seized by the police and is being used as key evidence.
DJ Dance Dispute Sparks Wedding Stabbing
Investigators believe the violence was triggered by a brief argument during a DJ performance earlier in the night. Police said Bakshi and the groom had allegedly pushed each other while dancing, leading to a heated exchange. The accused, angered by the scuffle, is suspected to have planned the attack that followed.
A case has been filed at Badnera Police Station, and multiple teams are reviewing the footage to trace the suspects. The investigation, supervised by SHO Sandeep Hiwale, remains ongoing, with police confident that the accused will be apprehended soon.
The injured groom was taken to RIMS Hospital in Amravati, where doctors confirmed he had sustained deep wounds but was now in a stable condition. The shocking incident has left the community stunned and has raised fresh concerns about safety at public and private gatherings.
