DMRC Completes One of the Deepest Tunnels For New Golden Line

The Delhi Metro Rail Cooperation (DMRC) has completed tunnel work on the deepest underground stretch for the fourth phase of Delhi Metro expansion. The new Metro line, known as the Golden Line, stretches across the IGNOU site on the Aerocity Tughlakabad corridor and is 1460 m from Chhatarpur Mandir.
The newly completed tunnel was constructed using a tunnel boring machine (TBM). This tunnel has an average depth of around 27 m. It is one of the deepest DMRC has ever achieved. The earth pressure balancing method (EPBM) was used to build the tunnel with a concrete lining made of precast tunnel rings.

Only two Delhi Metro tunnels have been as deep as this one. A tunnel on the magenta line in phase 3 was built at a depth of about 30 m while another tunnel for the Airport Express line was built at about 45 m and passes from below Rajiv Chowk Metro Station.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and environment minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa attended the tunnel breakthrough event on Tuesday.
“The earlier government tried to stop the Metro project. The Delhi government share was not given. Even today, the Delhi government’s liability of ₹10,000 crore towards Delhi Metro is pending,” said CM Gupta on Tuesday while slamming the previous Aam Aadmi party government.
