Just before the Bihar Assembly Election, the Congress party is going through on a systematic and practical strategy by strengthening its old strongholds and focusing on possible winning seats. The Congress is classifying the seats through a scientific process. The Congress has also done an interesting and practical experiment this time.
The party has divided the assembly seats into three categories A, B and C. A category seats are those where the party has a strong presence and where there is every possibility of winning the election. There are seats in the B category where victory can be achieved by giving some efforts. C category seats are considered to be the most challenging where not only the Congress, but also other parties of the Mahagathbandhan have not been able to make good performance.
This classification will not only help the organisation to do targeted work but will also play the role of balanced distribution of seats within the Alliance.
New tricks in search of old victory
A large part of the Congress strategy focuses on regaining the seats back where it won before or where he lost by a minor margin. In the 2015 assembly elections, the Congress got success in 29 seats. Even though the performance was weak in 2020, there were many seats where the difference of defeat was less than 10,000 like Barbigha, where the Congress candidates were left behind by just 100 votes. The party is now trying hard for these seats. Organizational activities in seats like Narkatiaganj, Bettiah, Riga, Benipatti, Amour, Pranpur, Kusheshwarsthan, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, and Tikari have intensified.
New experiments of public relations: “Maa-Bahin Maan Yojana”
The party is not only working on these seats on the identity and booth management of the candidates, but is also giving a edge to social dialogue and contact campaigns. In this sequence, “Maa-Bahin Maan Yojana” (project to respect mother and sister) has been started. Under which the Congress is establishing direct communication through its social programs in women voters, minorities and backward classes. Its aim is to make emotional and social access to voters
The Congress is now speaking in a new voice within the Alliance. Congress wants it will be given the those seats in the election which is practically beneficial for the party. The seats of C category which are extremely less likely to win are suggesting them to put them in the RJD or other parties. This message is clear that the Congress has now not come in “Sacrifice Mode” but in “Smart Politics Mode”.
According to political analysts, this strategy of Congress may impact on their future success. If the party is able to empower the organization at the grassroots level and keep its point in the alliance effectively, then it will not be impossible for it to win 15-20 additional seats in the coming assembly election.
