An eight-year-old girl from Gujarat, Takshvi Vaghhani, has made headlines by breaking her own Guinness World Record for limbo skating. She completed the lowest limbo skating at an astonishing height of just 16 centimetres over a distance of 10 metres. This latest achievement further enhances her skating profile, which she embarked upon at the tender age of four, indicating her dedication and passion for the sport.

Dedication and Training Behind the Achievement

Takshvi’s success is attributed to her intense training regime and familial support. She reportedly practises skating for two hours each morning and another two hours each night, indicating her commitment to mastering the skill. In an interview with ANI, she mentioned that her father was instrumental in teaching her to skate, providing not only technical guidance but also motivational support throughout her journey.

When asked about her competitive experiences, Takshvi stated that she has won numerous competitions, showcasing her talent and preparation. Her achievement is a testament to the importance of consistent practice and familial encouragement in developing young athletes.

Limbo skating requires exceptional balance, flexibility, and years of dedicated practice, making Takshvi’s record all the more impressive. Few skaters globally can match her accomplishments, highlighting the exceptional nature of her skill set.

Emerging Trends Among India’s Young Generation

Takshvi Vaghhani’s record underscores a significant trend among Indian youth, where children are increasingly making a mark on international platforms in various fields, including sports and technology. With the rise of Generation Z and Generation Alpha, many young individuals are gaining recognition at an early age, thereby broadening the perception of what success can look like in contemporary India.

Furthermore, Takshvi’s journey reflects the shift in family values, where support for diverse aspirations beyond traditional education is becoming more commonplace. Parents are now encouraging their children to pursue excellence in sports, arts, and other innovative fields, illustrating a broader understanding of achievement.

In recent years, several young Indians have gained international accolades, proving that talent can flourish regardless of age. Takshvi’s accomplishment adds to a growing list of young achievers from India, all contributing to a more dynamic global narrative focused on youth potential.

Significance of Early Training and Support

Takshvi’s success also exemplifies the crucial role of early training in developing skills that can lead to international recognition. Her father’s guidance and continuous involvement have been vital in shaping her journey, demonstrating how family support is integral in nurturing young talent.

Historically, education was viewed as the primary route to success, but the current generation is diversifying their pursuits, engaging in sports and arts alongside academic achievements. Takshvi’s milestone stands out as an example of how young talent in India is redefining success, paving the way for future generations.

With her latest Guinness World Record, Takshvi Vaghhani has solidified her place as a remarkable young athlete. Her achievement mirrors the potential within young Indians to thrive on international platforms, as they increasingly engage in competition and recognition across various domains.

Wimbledon 2026 has officially commenced at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Monday, 29 June. The pristine grass courts are now set for competitive action, offering a captivating lineup for Day 1 that features some of the sport’s top contenders. The initial matches will unfold predominantly on Centre Court and No. 1 Court, showcasing the first rounds for the upper half of the men’s draw and the lower half of the women’s draw.

The marquee matches are scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM BST on Centre Court, while Court No. 1’s matches will commence slightly earlier at 1:00 PM BST. This season’s Championship promises thrilling encounters as it sets the stage for memorable matches and potential upsets.

Some of the prominent fixtures for the opening day include Jannik Sinner taking on Miomir Kecmanovic and Aryna Sabalenka facing Teodora Kostovic, both of whom will play on Centre Court. Meanwhile, Court No. 1 sees Emma Raducanu against Antonia Ruzic and Marin Cilic versus Daniil Medvedev among others.

Players to Watch

Main interest lies in three prominent athletes: Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Aryna Sabalenka. These players embody the competitive essence of this tournament, each with unique narratives contributing to the day’s excitement.

Jannik Sinner, the defending champion, steps onto Centre Court with the considerable pressure of opening the tournament. After a challenging exit in the semi-finals of the French Open, Sinner aims to establish his dominance on grass against the resilient Kecmanovic. His ability to effectively use his defensive skills and aggressive groundstrokes will be crucial as he navigates the slick grass.

Novak Djokovic enters this year’s tournament as the seventh seed, a position different from his usual status as the favourite. He faces Yibing Wu in his opening match and must adjust to the altered court conditions stemming from London’s recent heatwave. Djokovic’s ability to adapt his gameplay will be instrumental in this encounter, particularly as he seeks to reclaim higher rankings in the tournament.

Weather Conditions for Competitors

Compounding the challenges of competition, players must also confront the prevailing weather conditions, particularly the recent heatwave in London, which has been a dominant topic. A slight respite from the stifling heat has occurred, following extensive periods of extreme temperatures that have put a strain on both the city’s infrastructure and its residents.

According to the Met Office, London experienced unprecedented heat, with consecutive Red Extreme Heat warnings as temperatures rose towards 39 degrees Celsius. These conditions have transformed both the dynamics of play and the physical demands on athletes competing in such extreme weather. The notable change may inject an additional layer of complexity as players adjust their strategies accordingly.

Despite the challenges posed by the heat, the excitement surrounding Wimbledon remains palpable. As the first day unfolds, all eyes will be on how top players like Sinner, Djokovic, and Sabalenka perform against both their opponents and the notoriously fickle weather, setting the tone for the remainder of the tournament.

India’s recent loss to Ireland marked a significant moment in T20 cricket, as the reigning world champions fell 0-2 in the series. On June 28, at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast, Ireland achieved their first T20I series win against India by securing a thrilling one-run victory in the second match.

The match began with Ireland’s triumph over India in the first T20I, paving the way for an unprecedented series result. This win not only ended India’s remarkable streak of 16 consecutive bilateral T20I series victories but also exemplified the growing stature of Irish cricket on the international stage.

This victory resonates as one of the most monumental moments in the history of cricket in Ireland, drawing parallels to Kevin O’Brien’s celebrated century during the 2011 ODI World Cup, which notably shocked England.

India’s Struggles in the Chase

In the second T20I, Ireland set a modest target of 155 runs. The Indian batting line-up faced immediate challenges as debutant Jai Moondra’s impressive bowling dismissed top-order batsmen without scoring, leaving India struggling at 1 for 2. Captain Shreyas Iyer soon joined his teammates with his dismissal, further crippling the visiting squad.

After a dismal start, India’s hopes were pinned on the partnership between Tilak Varma and Axar Patel, who managed to rebuild the innings. Varma played a steady innings, reaching a half-century and providing some much-needed stability. However, his dismissal proved to be critical for India’s chances.

In the final moments of the match, Harshit Rana’s aggressive hitting brought the chase close, needing just eight runs from the last two balls. Nonetheless, a miscalculated shot led to his dismissal, ensuring Ireland’s narrow victory and sealing a historic series win.

Bowling and Fielding Mastery by Ireland

Previously, Ireland’s innings began shakily, as the team found itself at 58 for 3 after ten overs due to the disciplined performance of India’s bowlers. However, Harry Tector and Ben Calitz partnered for a vital 65-run stand, helping to steady the innings. Tector’s contribution of 53 runs off 47 balls, coupled with Calitz’s brisk 37, laid the foundation for Ireland’s total of 154 for 8.

India’s bowlers, including Shivam Dube and debutant Prince Yadav, also played crucial roles, with Yadav picking up three wickets and displaying effective bowling techniques throughout his first international match. Dube’s dismissals of both Tector and Calitz came at a pivotal stage, but Ireland’s overall score remained competitive.

The key to Ireland’s success lay in their collective bowling effort, with Moondra standing out by taking three wickets. The team’s fielding was equally impressive, exemplified by Adair’s remarkable direct hit that led to Ishan Kishan’s run-out, further contributing to the pressure on the Indian batting side.

This series result is particularly significant for Ireland, who managed to outplay India despite missing several veteran players. The victory showcased their ability to adapt to home conditions effectively and execute strategic plans with precision, while India’s defeat revealed areas needing improvement as they transition under new leadership.

Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan were among the notable figures in attendance at Lord’s as the Indian women’s cricket team faced Australia on June 28, 2026. This crucial Group A match in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was vital for India, who needed a victory to advance to the semifinals. The iconic venue welcomed a large crowd, reflecting the significance of the moment for women’s cricket.

Kohli arrived with his wife, Anushka Sharma, while Dhawan was joined by Sophie Shine. Former India coach Ravi Shastri also attended the match, adding to the star-studded gathering. Fans eagerly anticipated the match, which featured significant figures from the cricketing community lending their support to the Indian women’s team.

Throughout the game, cameras frequently captured Kohli, Dhawan, Anushka, and Shastri, who were visibly enthusiastic as they cheered for India’s performances. The presence of such high-profile personalities underscored the growing interest in women’s cricket, creating an electric atmosphere that resonated with fans both in the stands and at home.

India’s Strong Performance Against Australia

The match held tremendous importance for the Indian team, particularly after South Africa’s earlier victory over Bangladesh. The loss for Bangladesh meant that India needed a win to secure their place in the semifinals, putting pressure on the team to deliver a strong performance. On the other hand, Australia came into the match as tournament favourites, having maintained an unbeaten record thus far.

The Indian opening pair, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, set a solid foundation, scoring 66 runs in just 9.1 overs. Their aggressive start gave India momentum, but their departure led to the captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, stepping up to take charge of the innings. In a remarkable display of skill, she achieved the fastest fifty in the history of the Women’s T20 World Cup, reaching the milestone in just 25 balls.

Harmanpreet concluded her innings with an impressive score of 56 runs off 27 balls, striking six boundaries and three sixes. Her performance was crucial in helping India finish with a total of 170 runs for the loss of six wickets. Jemimah Rodrigues also played an important role, contributing 34 runs from 28 deliveries, including a boundary and a maximum, further solidifying India’s position.

Celebrating the Growth of Women’s Cricket

This match not only marked a pivotal moment in the tournament but also showcased the increasing popularity of women’s cricket, particularly in India. The sold-out double-header at Lord’s, which also featured a match between South Africa and Bangladesh, highlighted the expanding audience for women’s sports. Such events are crucial for elevating the profile of women’s cricket and fostering future talent.

The dynamic atmosphere at Lord’s represented a significant moment in the history of women’s cricket, with the attendance of cricketing icons further enhancing the experience for players and fans alike. This match served as a reminder of the increasing recognition and respect for the women’s game, with support from influential figures generating excitement and encouragement for aspiring athletes.

As the tournament progresses, it remains to be seen how India’s performance will influence the future landscape of women’s cricket. The contributions of players like Harmanpreet Kaur will undoubtedly play a critical role in inspiring the next generation of cricketers.

Sunil Gavaskar expressed his astonishment at the absence of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from India’s squad during the two-match T20I series against Ireland. The former India captain indicated that he anticipated Sooryavanshi would make his debut in this series due to the promising young talent’s impressive performances in the IPL.

Gavaskar noted that this series presented a unique opportunity for the selectors to introduce fresh faces into the team environment. He articulated that exposure to international cricket would have been beneficial for the young batter, easing him into the rigours of the game. The veteran believed the series provided a less challenging arena for a budding player like Sooryavanshi to adapt before encountering more formidable opponents in future matches.

While Gavaskar foresaw Sooryavanshi as a potential opener alongside established players like Abhishek Sharma or Sanju Samson, he acknowledged that the team management opted for continuity. This decision aimed to retain stability by prioritising the tried and tested lineup rather than experimenting with newer players in a critical two-match series.

Context Of Sooryavanshi’s Selection

The context surrounding Sooryavanshi’s omission can be traced back to his remarkable performances during the IPL season, where he quickly rose to prominence as one of India’s exciting young batting prospects. His capacity for aggressive play against high-calibre bowling had elevated his standing in the national setup prior to the selection of the squad.

Despite the considerable buzz surrounding his abilities and potential, the Indian selectors decided to rely on seasoned players, resulting in Sooryavanshi remaining on the bench during the Ireland series. This decision reflects India’s strategy to focus on maintaining momentum with proven combinations, especially in a series where results were crucial for the team’s future T20 trajectory.

Moreover, the management likely wanted to ensure that the players who had recently contributed to the team’s success were given the opportunity to solidify their positions. The decision underscores a strategic approach aimed at balancing the introduction of new talent with the need for stability during the international campaign.

Looking Ahead to England Series

As the series against Ireland concludes, Gavaskar remains optimistic about Sooryavanshi’s prospects for inclusion in upcoming matches, particularly the anticipated series against England. He emphasised that talented players of Sooryavanshi’s calibre are typically integrated into the squad quite quickly.

Gavaskar stated, “He will definitely get his chance,” suggesting that Sooryavanshi is a key figure in the selectors’ plans moving forward. This implies that squad rotation and the need to manage player workloads could facilitate the young batter’s entry into the senior team soon.

In the context of modern T20 cricket, Gavaskar highlighted the necessity for data-driven integration of players who exhibit strong form. He stressed that India’s robust depth in talent allows for thoughtful transitions, ensuring that exceptional players are not sidelined for extended periods. Current circumstances may soon allow Sooryavanshi the chance to showcase his abilities on the international stage.

While opportunities may arise through various factors like player rotations, injuries, or tactical adjustments, Sooryavanshi remains one of the most anticipated talents in Indian cricket. Expectations continue to build as fans and analysts alike eagerly await the moment when he will don the national jersey for the first time.

India has notably marked a significant achievement at the 2026 World Rowing Cup III held in Lucerne, Switzerland. Lakshay and Ujjwal Kumar Singh became the first Indian pair to secure a gold medal in the history of the World Rowing Cup series on Saturday. Competing in the Lightweight Men’s Double Sculls Final, the duo delivered a remarkable performance, finishing with a time of 6:26.09.

They successfully outpaced strong contenders such as Hong Kong, who finished at 6:27.14, and the Netherlands, clocking in at 6:27.36. This event featured one of the closest races in the opening medal session, illustrating the competitive nature of the sport.

This milestone not only highlights the achievement of the athletes but also underscores the evolving landscape of Indian rowing. Previous to this, the Indian contingent had not been awarded a gold medal in the World Rowing Cup, which is distinguished as a key preparatory event leading to the World Rowing Championships.

Profile of the Athletes and Team Composition

Both Lakshay and Ujjwal Kumar Singh are active members of the Indian Army, reflecting the strong association between military personnel and rowing in India. The contingent competing at the regatta showcases the commitment of the armed forces to sports development, having built a squad primarily composed of military athletes. Out of the 18-member team, 17 represent the Indian Army, with one participant from the Indian Navy.

This robust representation not only demonstrates the armed forces’ focus on nurturing talent but also showcases the infrastructure and training programmes they have in place for athlete development. The success of the Indian rowers suggests a promising future for the sport, particularly as more athletes are trained under such dedicated programmes.

In addition, by entering the finals against seasoned competitors like Lam San Tung and Chan Tik Lung from Hong Kong, who had previously won at World Rowing Cup I, Lakshay and Ujjwal’s performance is a testament to their preparation and skill. They managed to maintain a leading position throughout, showcasing resilience under competitive pressure.

Significance of the Victory

The victory has been hailed as a defining moment for Indian rowing, with Colonel Ramakrishnan, Commanding Officer of the Army Rowing Node, acknowledging the achievement’s historic nature. He remarked on the success as a reflection of years of dedication, discipline, and high-calibre training within the Army Rowing Node.

Colonel Ramakrishnan further stated that this achievement is not only a proud moment for the Indian Army but for the nation as a whole. He expressed hope that the success of Lakshay and Ujjwal will inspire subsequent generations of athletes to excel in rowing and contribute to India’s ambitions in Olympic events.

The gold medal was awarded on the first day of finals at the Rotsee course in Lucerne, recognised for its excellent conditions suitable for rowing competitions. As the regatta continues over three days, the implications of this victory may resonate further, potentially guiding future developments in the sport for India.

Ben Stokes has announced his anticipated retirement from international cricket, which is set to take effect following the conclusion of the third Test match against New Zealand. The decision has sparked significant attention in the cricketing community, as Stokes has been a pivotal figure in English cricket over the past decade.

Impact on Cricketing Career

Throughout his career, Stokes has established a reputation as one of the most talented all-rounders in the sport. His contributions have been vital for England, including key performances in the Ashes series and his remarkable role in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he played a crucial part in securing England’s first title. Stokes has amassed numerous accolades, making him a celebrated athlete in the annals of cricket.

His retirement marks the end of an era for the England cricket team, given Stokes’ involvement in various memorable moments and his ability to inspire teammates. Fans and analysts alike will reflect on his achievements, which include significant match-winning innings and outstanding bowling displays throughout his career.

The cricketing fraternity has expressed its admiration for Stokes as he prepares to step away from international duties. His leadership qualities and competitive spirit have not only endeared him to supporters but have also played a crucial role in shaping team dynamics. This transition will undoubtedly be felt within the England camp, as players and coaches adjust to his absence.

Future Prospects

While Stokes intends to retire from international cricket, there remains speculation regarding his involvement in domestic leagues or franchise cricket. Historically, many retired international players choose to participate in T20 leagues, which offer lucrative opportunities and a platform to showcase their skills at a different level. Stokes’ future decisions in cricket will be closely observed by fans and media.

Moreover, the announcement has led to discussions about the strategic direction of the England cricket team moving forward. With Stokes stepping down, stakeholders within the team management may begin to contemplate potential successors and restructuring to fill the leadership void left in his wake. The upcoming matches may see younger players seize the opportunity to step up, aiming to emulate Stokes’ legacy on the field.

For the moment, Stokes remains committed to performing at his best during the final Test against New Zealand. As fans prepare to bid farewell to a player who has been an instrumental figure in English cricket, the cricketing world looks forward to witnessing his last outings with enthusiasm and respect.

Ireland’s women’s cricket team achieved a significant milestone by securing their first-ever win at the Women’s T20 World Cup. This historic victory comes just a day after the Ireland men’s team achieved a landmark victory against India in a T20 International match. After 21 successive losses in the tournament since their debut in 2014, Ireland finally broke their losing streak with a six-wicket win over the West Indies.

This victory not only represents a turning point for Irish cricket but also affects the dynamics of the group stage standings. Even though Ireland has been eliminated from semi-final contention, their triumph opens up a pathway for New Zealand to qualify. If New Zealand wins their final group-stage match, they and England will move forward to the semi-finals, while the West Indies must now rely on England to defeat New Zealand to continue their own knockout hopes.

Bowling Precision Limits West Indies

In the match, Ireland’s bowlers put on a disciplined display, restricting the West Indies to a total of 128 runs from their 20 overs. The Caribbean team entered the game with high hopes of boosting their chances for a semi-final spot but found it difficult to build momentum against a relentless Irish bowling attack. Captain Hayley Matthews scored 22 runs, while Deandra Dottin added 21 runs. However, both were dismissed at critical moments in the innings.

Stafanie Taylor, a seasoned player, contributed 16 runs, but West Indies struggled to form a substantial partnership throughout their innings. Chinelle Henry provided late resistance with an unbeaten 27 runs off 21 balls. The batting line-up also benefitted from 14 extras to surpass the 125-run mark. Cara Murray starred with the ball for Ireland, taking two wickets for 13 runs in her four overs, effectively slowing down the opposition’s progress. Aimee Maguire also secured two scalps, while Jane Maguire, Arlene Kelly, and Orla Prendergast each collected one wicket, setting Ireland a target of 129 runs to chase down.

Prendergast Leads the Chase

The Irish batting commenced on a shaky note when captain Gaby Lewis fell for a mere nine runs in the fifth over. However, Amy Hunter and Orla Prendergast regained composure and formed a strong partnership. Hunter contributed 28 runs from 32 balls, aiding in the rebuilding of the innings with a partnership of 62 runs for the second wicket.

Orla Prendergast then took charge of the innings, scoring a remarkable 63 runs off only 44 balls. Her innings, which comprised eight boundaries and two sixes, was pivotal in shifting momentum towards Ireland, as her attacking play raised the team’s spirits. Despite her dismissal in the 16th over, only 21 runs were needed for a win.

Rebecca Stokell displayed calm under pressure, remaining not out on 16 runs, while Louise Little sealed the victory with a boundary, finishing the match with 11 balls to spare. Ashmini Munisar was the standout bowler for the West Indies with figures of 2 wickets for 28 runs, while both Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher took one wicket each. This victory not only marks a significant achievement for Ireland but also serves as an uplifting moment following the men’s team’s win over India.

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships held in Bhubaneswar, he achieved an outstanding clearance of 2.31 metres.

G Sindhushree, a pole vaulter from Karnataka, recently established a new national record while competing with borrowed equipment due to financial constraints. Following the passing of her father in 2022, she faced significant challenges that prevented her from purchasing the necessary gear. Until two weeks before the National Inter-State Championships, she used shorter poles that limited her performance.

At the Championships held in her home state, Sindhushree managed to clear a height of 4.25 metres, surpassing the previous national record of 4.20 metres set a month earlier by Baranica Elangovan from Tamil Nadu. This remarkable feat also secured her a spot at the upcoming Asian Games.

The 25-year-old athlete hails from Bhadravati in the Shimoga district, where her family resides in modest circumstances. Her achievement came in a moment of emotional reflection, as she attributed her success to her late father, R Ganesh, who had always encouraged her athletic pursuits. Without financial backing or sponsorship, Sindhushree expressed the urgency of finding employment to support her family.

Personal Background and Athletic Journey

Growing up in a family where sports were not a priority, Sindhushree was the first in her household to pursue athletics, with her father paving the path for her involvement. He would often take her to run in the mornings, voicing his desire to see her compete internationally. After his demise, she dedicated her win at the Championships to his memory, holding a photograph of him during her celebrations.

Her mother, who works as a tailor, now looks after her younger sister’s education, while Sindhushree has received financial support from her grandfather. Despite struggling to make ends meet, she remains focused on her goal of competing at a high level and hopes that her recent success will lead to job opportunities in athletics.

Previously a 400m runner, Sindhushree transitioned to pole vault in 2017 upon the recommendation of a local coach who believed she had greater potential in that discipline. She credits her improvement to the longer pole borrowed from a friend, which she only received shortly before the competition, allowing her to achieve a personal best that exceeded previous records.

Future Aspirations and Coaching Support

With the Asian Games approaching, Sindhushree described her opportunity to compete as a dream come true, largely thanks to the sacrifices made by her father. Her coach, Vijeesh MM, highlighted her patience and perseverance, noting that despite years of training with inadequate equipment, her determination has finally paid off. He expressed optimism that with proper support and nutrition, she could surpass the 4.30-metre mark, which would align with medal-winning performances at the Games.

Already, Sindhushree has made significant improvements to her performance, and her coach believes that her ability to harness the right tools will be crucial in preparing for future competitions. Following her recent accomplishments, there is hope that she will receive more attention and potentially secure the resources necessary to continue her athletic journey. Her recent triumph represents not only a personal victory but also encapsulates the potential of athletes who overcome adversity to reach elite levels in sports.
