Personal Background and Athletic Journey

Growing up in a family where sports were not a priority, Sindhushree was the first in her household to pursue athletics, with her father paving the path for her involvement. He would often take her to run in the mornings, voicing his desire to see her compete internationally. After his demise, she dedicated her win at the Championships to his memory, holding a photograph of him during her celebrations.

Her mother, who works as a tailor, now looks after her younger sister’s education, while Sindhushree has received financial support from her grandfather. Despite struggling to make ends meet, she remains focused on her goal of competing at a high level and hopes that her recent success will lead to job opportunities in athletics.

Previously a 400m runner, Sindhushree transitioned to pole vault in 2017 upon the recommendation of a local coach who believed she had greater potential in that discipline. She credits her improvement to the longer pole borrowed from a friend, which she only received shortly before the competition, allowing her to achieve a personal best that exceeded previous records.

Future Aspirations and Coaching Support

With the Asian Games approaching, Sindhushree described her opportunity to compete as a dream come true, largely thanks to the sacrifices made by her father. Her coach, Vijeesh MM, highlighted her patience and perseverance, noting that despite years of training with inadequate equipment, her determination has finally paid off. He expressed optimism that with proper support and nutrition, she could surpass the 4.30-metre mark, which would align with medal-winning performances at the Games.

Already, Sindhushree has made significant improvements to her performance, and her coach believes that her ability to harness the right tools will be crucial in preparing for future competitions. Following her recent accomplishments, there is hope that she will receive more attention and potentially secure the resources necessary to continue her athletic journey. Her recent triumph represents not only a personal victory but also encapsulates the potential of athletes who overcome adversity to reach elite levels in sports.
