The first MBA batch consists of 52 students hailing from 18 different states across India. The educational institution has initiated its operations under the guidance of IIM Ahmedabad. Plans are in place for the eventual move to a permanent campus being developed in the villages of Morabhita and Dighalkuchi, situated within the Palashbari Revenue Circle of Kamrup district. The permanent facilities will cover 574 bighas of land and are expected to be completed within the next three years.

Sarma highlighted that under the Modi administration, the Government of India has worked to expand quality management education nationwide, increasing the number of IIMs from thirteen in 2014 to twenty-two today. Until the permanent campus is completed, a fully equipped transit campus has been developed at Tech City, Bongora, featuring modern lecture halls, offices, a library, faculty accommodation, and hostel blocks. This renovation, costing nearly Rs. 39 crore, aims to ensure seamless academic activities.

Additionally, CM Sarma recalled that the academic session of IIM Guwahati was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on February 14, 2026. Following this launch, the institute began offering Executive Education programmes, and within five months, it successfully introduced its flagship MBA programme. This development is expected to bolster Assam’s position as a key player in India’s higher education landscape.

Future Aspirations and Collaborative Efforts

As IIM Guwahati becomes the 22nd Indian Institute of Management and the second in the North East, CM Sarma expressed confidence in the institution’s potential. The arrested individuals were identified as Ningthoujam Thourangba alias Dingku alias Goro, aged 29, and Ahongshangbam Momocha Singh alias Paikhomba, aged 20, both reportedly affiliated with the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak – Progressive (PREPAK PRO).

The following day, on June 5, a third militant, Huidrom Boyboy Singh, aged 28, was arrested under the Hiyanglam Police Station in Kakching district. Singh is believed to have been involved in arms smuggling and disseminating militant propaganda through various means, including pasting banners and flags.

Additional Arrest and Seizures

In a separate arrest on June 5, law enforcement apprehended Thangjam Diya Singh alias Manimatum, aged 26, in the Imphal West district. He is associated with the Kuki-chin People’s Liberation (KCP) and was found in possession of several incriminating items during his apprehension.

Alongside these militant arrests, the police also managed to intercept two separate cases involving the transport of contraband. On June 4, at approximately 4:25 pm, Md Azmal Khan, aged 26, from Lilong Uku in Thoubal district, was arrested while transporting tobacco products in a vehicle. He was stopped near the Pioneer School area under the Pallel Police Station, and authorities confiscated the vehicle he was driving.

On the same day, at around 10:30 am, security forces seized a truck at the SMPU Naka check post in Leingangpokpi, under Jiribam Police Station. This truck was found to be carrying 46.370 kgs of suspected WY tablets, along with packaging materials. The driver, identified as Pankaj Kumar Ray, aged 30, hails from Teliya Chhapra in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, and was subsequently taken into custody.

Implications of Ongoing Operations

The recent string of operations indicates a continued effort by Manipur Police and security forces to counteract militant activities and the transportation of illegal substances within the state. The arrests highlight persistent concerns regarding insurgency and contraband trafficking in the region.
