The Aadi month is recognised as one of the most spiritually significant periods in Tamil Nadu, particularly regarding the worship of Amman (Mother Goddess) deities. It typically occurs between mid-July and mid-August in the Gregorian calendar, marking a time for devotion and reflection.

Aadi month is traditionally dedicated to Goddess Shakti, symbolising divine feminine energy. Various forms of the goddess, including Mariamman, Kamakshi, and regional guardian deities, are worshipped extensively across Tamil Nadu during this time.

Visitors to the City Palace of Jaipur can observe a massive silver jar, recognised as the largest in the world by Guinness World Records. This impressive artefact, weighing around 345 kg and standing 5 feet 3 inches tall, has a circumference of nearly 15 feet, capable of holding approximately 4,200 litres of water. The colossal jar has been a part of the Palace for over a century and serves as a testament to the Maharaja’s unique journey.

Preparation for the Voyage

Upon receiving the royal invitation, Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II chose to bring three life-sized silver urns to London, crafted from 14,000 silver coins over a period of three years by palace silversmiths, completed in 1894. The reason behind the creation of these urns remains unclear, but the Maharaja intended to use them during his lengthy sea voyage, which posed significant challenges.

Hindu beliefs at that time viewed crossing the ocean, referred to as kala pani, as potentially damaging to one’s caste and ritual purity. Consequently, the Maharaja’s priests and advisors endeavoured to reconcile these religious traditions with the expectations associated with his visit to England. After numerous deliberations, strict conditions were established for the journey, stipulating that no meat would be prepared on board and that he would consume only Ganga water throughout the journey.

In preparation for departure, the ship underwent purification rituals with Ganga water, while priests invoked blessings from Lord Varuna for a safe passage. Choosing a suitable vessel proved challenging, but they finally selected the Olympia, which had never been in contact with beef, thus meeting the Maharaja’s requirements.

Challenges and Arrival in England

The cost of chartering the Olympia for the complete journey, including a month-long stay in the UK, amounted to Rs 1.5 million, equivalent to approximately Rs 750 million today. Ultimately, Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II travelled as the sole passenger aboard the ship, which departed from Bombay in 1902.

Life on the ship was structured, with various suites designated for different members of the entourage, including a luxurious suite for Gopalji, the family deity, and one for the Maharaja himself. However, the journey was fraught with challenges, exacerbated by a storm that struck while traversing the Red Sea. Amid the turbulence, the priests advised the Maharaja to release one of the silver urns into the sea to placate the unsettled waters.

Despite these difficulties, the Maharaja successfully completed his voyage and arrived in England, where he was met with astonishment upon presenting the sizable silver jars. Although invited, the Maharaja did not attend the coronation ceremony due to concerns over the consumption of beef in the vicinity. Instead, he prepared meals at his encampment, remaining compliant with his cultural practices.

Following his time in England, the Maharaja returned to India, leaving behind a legacy that interwove the complexities of faith and duty. The remnants of his journey, particularly one of the two silver jars, now stand in the City Palace, embodying the harmony between tradition and commitment that characterised his historic voyage.

मुख्यमंत्री का अभूतपूर्व प्रयास

मुख्यमंत्री साय ने रायपुर के साइंस कॉलेज मैदान में इस विवाह कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए कहा कि मुख्यमंत्री कन्या विवाह योजना ने गरीब परिवारों के लिए बेटी के विवाह के तनाव को समाप्त कर दिया है। अब यह एक सम्मान और भरोसे का विषय बन गया है। उनकी उपस्थिति में 1,316 नवविवाहित जोड़ों को प्रत्यक्ष रूप से आशीर्वाद दिया गया, जबकि अन्य पारिवारिक जोड़े वर्चुअल माध्यम से जुड़े रहे।

विविध धार्मिक परंपराओं में विवाह

इस भव्य आयोजन में पूरे राज्य से जोड़े शामिल हुए। रायपुर सहित सात जिलों के 1,400 जोड़ों के विवाह ने छत्तीसगढ़ में सामाजिक समरसता का नया अध्याय लिखा। यह नदियों, पहाड़ों और सदियों पुरानी परंपराओं के बीच एक अद्वितीय क्षण था, जिसने सभी धर्मों को एक साथ लाया।

आर्थिक सहायता से नवविवाहितों की मदद

सामूहिक विवाह समारोह में शामिल प्रत्येक नवविवाहित दंपति को 35 हजार रुपये की सहायता राशि भी प्रदान की गई। इस पहल ने संबंधित परिवारों की आर्थिक स्थिति में सुधार करने का महत्वपूर्ण प्रयास किया है। इस आयोजन को गोल्डन बुक ऑफ वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड में दर्ज किया गया है, जो छत्तीसगढ़ के लिए गर्व का विषय है।

कुपोषण मुक्त छत्तीसगढ़ अभियान की शुरुआत

कार्यक्रम के दौरान मुख्यमंत्री ने कुपोषण मुक्त छत्तीसगढ़ अभियान का भी औपचारिक शुभारंभ किया। उन्होंने बताया कि इस अभियान की शुरुआत सरगुजा और बस्तर संभाग के आठ जिलों में की गई है। उन्होंने इस परियोजना की सफलता के लिए समाज की भागीदारी को आवश्यक बताया और कहा कि इसे पूरे राज्य में विस्तारित किया जाएगा।

सरकार की अन्य योजनाएं

मुख्यमंत्री ने बताया कि प्रदेश विकास की ओर तेजी से बढ़ रहा है और सरकार ने पिछले वर्षों में कई महत्वपूर्ण योजनाओं को लागू किया है। महतारी वंदन योजना के अंतर्गत 70 लाख से अधिक महिलाओं को आर्थिक सहायता दी जा रही है। उन्होंने तेंदूपत्ता संग्राहकों, भूमिहीन मजदूरों और अन्य जनकल्याणकारी योजनाओं का भी जिक्र किया।

कार्यक्रम में विशेष उपस्थित

इस ऐतिहासिक आयोजन में कई विधायक और सरकारी अधिकारी भी मौजूद थे। महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्री लक्ष्मी राजवाड़े ने बताया कि मुख्यमंत्री कन्या विवाह योजना की शुरुआत पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री डॉ. रमन सिंह के नेतृत्व में हुई थी। इस योजना के माध्यम से सरकार लोगों तक लाभ पहुंचाने के लिए निरंतर प्रयासरत है।
