On May 9, Prime Minister Modi shared an op-ed addressing the significance of the Somnath Temple ahead of his scheduled visit. In this piece, he elaborated on the temple’s historical importance and acknowledged those who have endeavoured to protect and restore the site over the centuries. His reflections aimed to highlight the temple as a symbol of cultural and civilisational pride for the nation.

In the op-ed, Modi mentioned that this visit would honour 75 years since Dr Rajendra Prasad’s dedication of the restored temple. He also recalled his earlier attendance at the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, which commemorated a millennium since the temple faced its first historical attack. This moment marked a significant journey of resilience and revival for the holy site.
