Another Pune Porsche like crash has occurred in Chandigarh. A high-speed Porsche crash left one man dead and two women injured. The luxury car collided with two Activa scooters near a petrol pump in Chandigarh’s Sector 4. The tragic accident took place on Monday evening. The police confirmed that the Porsche was being driven recklessly at an “excessive speed” before it hit the two-wheeler riders.

The police further informed that the vehicle came from the opposite direction and first struck a scooter carrying two women. The car then crashed into another Activa which was driven by a man.

However, the crash was so severe that the man’s leg was severed, and he succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The other two women, identified as Soni and Gurleen, sustained serious leg injuries and were rushed to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Hospital for treatment.

Porsche Dragged the Scooter

Meanwhile, the Eyewitnesses described the horrifying moment when the Activa got stuck to the Porsche’s front engine and was dragged for a considerable distance. The luxury car then lost control, hitting an electric pole, a traffic sign board, and finally a tree before coming to a halt. According to the locals one of the scooters was completely destroyed, while the front of the Porsche was also severely damaged.

Accused Arrested

Following the incident, the Police arrived at the scene shortly and arrested the Porsche driver. However, the identity of the driver has not yet been disclosed. The vehicle has been impounded. Which means, the vehicle is taken to the nearest police station for further investigation. The owner has to produce the necessary documents and pay the fines to get the vehicle released.

Investigation Ongoing

Furthermore, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) related to reckless driving and negligence. Preliminary investigations revealed that the luxury car is registered to a resident of Sector 21, Chandigarh. The authorities are now probing the circumstances of the crash, including possible overspeeding. The Chandigarh police have assured a thorough investigation into the matter..

The Pune Porsche Case

The Chandigarh accident has reignited discussions around luxury cars and reckless driving. The recent incident has drawn comparisons to the highly controversial Pune Porsche case. On May 19, 2024, 17-year-old Vedant Agarwal killed two IT professionals, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, after crashing his high-speed Porsche Taycan while intoxicated in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area.

The incident caused widespread outrage across the nation, but the minor was granted bail by the juvenile court. The conditions for his bail included a 300-word essay on road safety and a 15-day program with the police. Vedant and his grandfather, who faced legal scrutiny, are now out on bail. The family has even petitioned for the return of the Porsche.

Mumbai, India: Porsche has partnered with non-for-profit organisation Liter of Light to ‘lighten up’ the homes of residents in rural villages of India this Diwali. The local manufacture of 1963 hand-crafted lamps were made by previously unemployed women in Mumbai. Before their donation, the lamps were laid out in a spectacular light installation at the famous Gateway of India in Mumbai.

Once the installation was complete, the lamps were carefully packed and taken to the villages in the Maharashtra and Gujarat regions of India, where they were donated with assistance from community organisations including Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach.

Those receiving the lamps live without reliable electricity and are often dependent on hazardous lighting methods such as burning coal or kerosine. The solar-powered lamps will now bring light to their homes.

“We are thrilled that we could produce such a spectacular display, and at the same time contribute to an improvement in the lives of those involved in this project, from the women cooperatives we’ve employed with green skills to the families who will ultimately benefit from these solar lamps,” said Illac Diaz, founder and Executive Director of Liter of Light.

The ‘festival of lights’

Diwali is the annual festival of lights and one of India’s most significant annual celebrations. It symbolises the victory of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. This made it a fitting occasion to celebrate the project at the famous Mumbai tourist site.

The installation set a new Guinness World Record for the largest display of solar powered lamps. The 1963 lamps a nod to the birth year of the Porsche 911. Each lamp was hand-crafted by previously unemployed women in Mumbai, including hand painting each in a colour similar to the new Provence look of the all new electric Porsche Macan. The lamps were then laid out in the shape of the Porsche crest in the shadow of the famous Gateway of India. Members of the public gathered at the 26-metre tall structure to observe the spectacle and even assist laying out the lamps as the sun began to set.

The lights were laid out by volunteers as well as visitors to the monument, with assistance from school students and members of Rotary Club of Bombay Juhu Beach.

“Porsche India is honoured to partner with Liter of Light to create a truly meaningful impact this Diwali, celebrating the Festival of Lights by bringing solar-powered light to communities in need,” said Manolito Vujicic, Brand Director for Porsche India.

‘Lighting up dreams’ with Liter of Light

Liter of Light aims to provide employment opportunities, in particular to women, by involving them in the manufacturing of its lights, thereby offering them a source of income. For this project, ceramic lights powered by a simple-yet-effective solar-set-up.

“We thank Liter of Light and our colleagues at Porsche India for bringing together this amazing project,” said Manfred Braeunl, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE. “The spectacular display at the Gateway of India has created amazing images that will be seen around the world. But the real lasting impact of this effort is that we have improved lives of people in a meaningful way.”
