A very heart wrenching incident has come to light from Indukurpet village, Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. A shocking case of child abuse was reported from Nellore District. A 10-year-old girl named Chenchamma was allegedly tortured by her neighbours with a burning iron rod.

The incident occurred in Kuditepalem’s Kakarladibba area under Indukurupet mandal, Nellore district. According to reports, the minor girl sustained severe burn injuries. The minor was allegedly attacked with a hot iron rod over suspicion of stealing a mobile phone.

Burn Injuries Inflicted Despite Child’s Denial

Police reports suggest that the child was living with her maternal aunt, Sannari Manikyam. This comes after her mother, Venkataramamma, remarried and left her in the aunt’s care several years ago. The locals say Chenchamma was accused by neighbours of stealing a phone. On the basis of mere suspicion she was subjected to extreme physical abuse.

The girl repeatedly denied stealing. Despite this, four people, including her aunt allegedly held her down. They brutally burned her cheeks and body using a burning hot iron rod. The assault took place in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) colony where the child reportedly lives.

Locals Rescue Child After Hearing Her Cries

The horrific incident came to light when neighbours heard the child’s screams. They rushed to the scene to rescue the girl. They found her with multiple burn marks and blisters on her face and on her body. Local residents quickly alerted the police and arranged for the girl to be taken to the Indukurupet Government Hospital. The girl received initial treatment before being discharged from the hospital.

Since then, a disturbing video circulating on social media shows the child in tears. The video details how she was forcefully held and tortured, despite asserting her innocence. In the video, the minor repeatedly says she never even entered the neighbour’s house, let alone stole anything.

Case Registered, Investigation Underway

The Indukurupet police registered a case of child cruelty and physical assault after the incident came to light. According to the police four individuals have been named in the FIR. Out of which, two of them have already been detained for questioning by the authorities. Authorities confirmed that further investigation is in progress and strict action will be taken against the culprits.

The brutal assault case has sparked outrage among child welfare groups and local residents. Demands of swift and stringent punishment are underway. Police officials assured that the matter is being treated seriously.
