इस परियोजना के तहत बांद्रा सी लिंक से बीकेसी और मुंबई एयरपोर्ट तक अंडरग्राउंड टनलें बनाई जाएंगी। इसका उद्देश्य शहर के मुख्य ट्रैफिक जाम वाले क्षेत्रों में वैकल्पिक मार्ग प्रदान करना है। सीएम फडणवीस के अनुसार मुंबई के 60 प्रतिशत वाहन पश्चिमी एक्सप्रेस हाईवे से गुजरते हैं। ऐसे में वैकल्पिक मार्ग के बिना ट्रैफिक जाम का समाधान मुश्किल है। इन टनलों से लोग कम समय में बीकेसी और एयरपोर्ट तक पहुंच सकेंगे।

ट्रैफिक गति और समय में सुधार

अभी मुंबई में औसत वाहन गति केवल 15-20 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे है। नए अंडरग्राउंड मार्ग बन जाने के बाद यह औसत 80 किलोमीटर प्रति घंटे तक बढ़ जाएगा। इसका मतलब है कि न केवल यात्रा समय कम होगा, बल्कि शहर की यातायात व्यवस्था भी अधिक सुव्यवस्थित और सुरक्षित होगी।

लोकल ट्रेनें भी होंगी आधुनिक

सीएम फडणवीस ने यह भी बताया कि मुंबई की लोकल ट्रेन सेवा को मेट्रो की तरह विकसित किया जाएगा। इसका मतलब है कि ट्रेनें तेज और नियमित होंगी, लेकिन यात्रियों के किराए में कोई वृद्धि नहीं होगी। इससे सड़क पर वाहन दबाव कम होगा और ट्रैफिक जाम में सुधार आएगा।

मुंबईवासियों के लिए बड़ा बदलाव

इस परियोजना से न केवल ट्रैफिक जाम कम होगा, बल्कि मुंबई की लाइफलाइन मानी जाने वाली लोकल ट्रेन सेवा भी बेहतर और आधुनिक बनेगी। अंडरग्राउंड टनल नेटवर्क और मेट्रो जैसी ट्रेन सेवा से शहर में यात्रा का समय कम होगा और लोगों की सुविधा बढ़ेगी।

Tripathi, who is the Acharya Mahamandaleshwar (head) of the Kinnar Akhara, and also the chief of the Nandlalpura Dera, spoke on the dispute between this dera and Sapna Haji’s faction, which has been ongoing for a while now; it is related to money and dominance. “We will soon complain to the police about this threat. The police should provide security to the members of the Nandlalpura Dera,” said Tripathi.

Why 24 transgender persons attempted mass suicide?

Last week, at least 24 members of the transgender community attempted mass suicide and were hospitalised. DCP Anand Kaladgi confirmed that upon getting the information, all of them were hospitalised and are currently stable. DCP Kaladgi said, “We received information about a situation of ruckus at a house in Nandlalpura where transgender persons reside. Our senior officers promptly arrived at the scene. They learned that some of the individuals had consumed an unknown substance, causing several of them to fall ill. Ambulances were immediately called, and 24 people were admitted to the nearby hospital. They are currently receiving treatment and are in stable condition.”

It is suspected that the suicide attempt was triggered due to the ongoing rivalry between two transgender community groups. “The allegation is that a leader of one of the groups was harassing members from the other group. We have registered an FIR after their statements were recorded,” DCP Kaladgi noted.

Sexual assault and blackmail

As per local residents, this incident of mass suicide followed after two cases of sexual assault and blackmail. Locals alleged that two men who pretended to be journalists sexually assaulted a trans person; however, police said the cases to be two different incidents. Neha Kunwar, a person closely associated with the transgender community said a few months back, two men who called themselves journalists assaulted a trans person. The two accused have been identified as Akshay and Pankaj.

Tripathi confirmed that Sapna Haji is under arrest after the mass suicide attempt, but her three associates are at large. She urged police to arrest other accused at the earliest. Pandharinath police station in-charge Ajay Rajouria confirmed that Sapna Haji has been behind bars since October 16 and the other three are being looked for. “A reward of Rs 10,000 each has been announced for information leading to the arrest of Hashmi, Jain, and Kumaun. Our teams are searching for the three accused,” he said.

10 transgender persons attempt suicide in Mumbai’s Vikhroli

On Sunday, 10 transgender persons were admitted to a municipal hospital in Vikhroli after attempting mass suicide, confirmed police. The incident happened after a person named Krishna Adelkar bad-mouthed the trans community. A doctor of Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar said that the transgender persons are undergoing treatment and will be kept under observation for some days.

The accused in the case, Adelkar, was a former employee of an organisation where he sexually assaulted a transgender person and was arrested, but when he was on bail, he bad-mouthed the community, leading to mental stress and the suicide attempt.

Blaze Contained in 20 Minutes by Fire Brigade

The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes by the Mumbai Fire Brigade, which arrived promptly at the scene. According to fire department officials, the flames were concentrated in a small section approximately 10 feet by 10 feet on the first floor, affecting electrical wiring, installations, household items, and three batteries used in electric vehicles.

Rescue teams transported four people to St George’s Hospital for treatment. One of the victims, Yash Vitthal Khot (15), was declared dead on arrival. A civic official confirmed the identities and conditions of the others injured in the incident: Devendra Choudhary (30), who is currently in the ICU, and Viraj Khot (13) and Sangram Kurne (25), both of whom are said to be stable.

While firefighters successfully contained the flames to a small portion of the building, the tragedy underlined the dangers posed by electrical malfunctions in densely packed residential spaces. “The fire was confined to electric wiring, installations, three electric vehicle batteries and household articles in an area measuring about 10×10 feet on the first floor of the chawl,” said an official.

Authorities from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Cell and the local police also responded to the incident, coordinating efforts with firefighters and BEST personnel to manage the situation and secure the area.

Though some initial suspicion points to a possible short circuit or battery-related failure, investigators have not confirmed the origin of the fire. “The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained,” an official added.

Emergency cooling operations continued at the site even after the flames were extinguished, as safety teams ensured that no residual heat posed further risk.

The Maharashtra government recently amended its language instruction policy, allowing Hindi to be offered as an optional third language from Classes 1 to 5 in Marathi and English medium schools. However, opposition leaders argue this is a veiled attempt to impose Hindi on the state’s children and marginalise Marathi identity.

While the state insists that the policy is flexible, critics remain unconvinced. “The BJP is trying to create a divide among people on the basis of language. It is imposing a language emergency,” said Uddhav Thackeray, challenging the state’s motives. “We do not oppose any language nor do we hate any language, but it does not mean that we will forcefully accept the imposition of any language.”

The controversy erupted after a government circular mentioned that Hindi would “generally” be the third language in schools. Although the order allows students to opt for other Indian languages—if 20 or more per class choose to do so—Uddhav and Raj see this as symbolic coercion. Uddhav has demanded clarity from CM Devendra Fadnavis, urging him to confirm that Hindi won’t be made mandatory.

Raj Reschedules Rally to July 5 for Ashadhi Ekadashi

MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who had originally planned a solo protest for July 6, revised the schedule to avoid a clash with Ashadhi Ekadashi, a major religious festival. “With warm regards, Jai Maharashtra… there is a slight change in that plan; the morcha will now take place on Saturday, July 5, at 10 AM from Girgaum to Azad Maidan. The location and all other details remain unchanged,” Raj announced on social media.

Before deciding to coordinate with Shiv Sena (UBT), Raj had appealed to all parties and cultural icons across Maharashtra to participate, emphasising the non-political nature of the march. “This is a conspiracy to erase Maharashtra’s Marathi identity,” he warned, clarifying that party flags would be absent during the protest.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut confirmed the unified plan. “A united march will take place against the imposition of Hindi in schools in Maharashtra. Jai Maharashtra!” he posted on X, accompanied by a nostalgic image of the two Thackerays standing before a portrait of Bal Thackeray.

Uddhav had initially endorsed a separate rally on July 7, supported by the Anti-Mumbai Tribhasha Sutra Coordination Committee. However, the announcement of a joint march on July 5 indicates a broader political and cultural alignment. “This is not just an educational issue; it is cultural encroachment,” Uddhav had warned earlier.

Aaditya Thackeray Also Slams Hindi Push in Schools

Youth leader Aaditya Thackeray also criticised the language directive: “No language should be forced. What we have been learning should continue. Education should be enhanced, but not burdened. Why only Hindi? Why not improve what’s already in place rather than adding to the load?”

Meanwhile, senior NCP leader Sharad Pawar added weight to the opposition, stressing the cognitive limitations young children face with language overload. “There is no issue with children learning Hindi after Class 5. But we must analyse how many languages a child of a certain age can realistically learn and what linguistic burden that places on them,” Pawar remarked.

The Education Minister, Dada Bhuse, had attempted to explain the rationale behind the three-language policy to Raj Thackeray personally, but his efforts did little to change the MNS chief’s position. “We cannot accept this policy. The issue of optional languages is applicable only after Grade 5 and as per the NEP, it’s up to the states to decide – so why is Maharashtra going ahead with this when other states haven’t?” Raj questioned.

He further criticised the growing influence of central education boards in the state, saying, “CBSE schools, set up for IAS officers’ children, are already dominant in pushing Hindi. Why is Maharashtra going down this path when no other state is doing this?”

As the protest day nears, political analysts believe this rare display of unity by the Thackeray cousins is more than just a cultural stand—it also signals a strategic alliance with an eye on the upcoming BMC elections. Still, the main message remains rooted in linguistic pride and a firm stand against what both leaders describe as an erosion of Marathi identity.
