Latif Khosa Seeks Clarification from Chief Justice

Latif Khosa, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has formally reached out to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi regarding concerns related to the medical evaluation of Imran Khan, the party’s incarcerated founding leader. In a letter written on February 16, Khosa expressed significant apprehensions about the circumstances surrounding Khan’s health check-up, which was conducted in what he termed “secrecy” at Adiala Jail on February 15. This medical assessment was ordered by the Supreme Court to occur before the stipulated date of February 16, following reports that Khan had lost 85 percent of his vision in his right eye.

Concerns Over Lack of Transparency

Khosa, who is also the legal representative for Khan in the Toshakhana case, emphasized that the lack of notification to both the family and independent medical professionals during the examination process has raised severe doubts. He articulated that the absence of relatives and trusted doctors has further intensified concerns over Khan’s well-being. In his correspondence, Khosa conveyed that such clandestine practices undermine the integrity of medical procedures and contribute to growing unease among Khan’s family, friends, and supporters.

Age and Health Complications Highlighted

Imran Khan, aged 73, is facing serious health issues that are worrying not only his family but also the broader public. Khosa pointed out that the former premier is being denied essential human needs at a time when his health is critically in need of transparency and care. There have been numerous reports over the past months indicating a decline in Khan’s eyesight and overall health, causing nationwide concern.

Official Findings Raise Alarm

Khosa referenced a report presented to the Supreme Court on February 11 by Barrister Salman Safdar, describing its findings as alarming. According to this report, Khan’s eyesight has deteriorated to the point where he possesses only approximately 15 percent vision in his right eye. The letter claims that despite Khan’s repeated complaints about his deteriorating vision, no prompt or sufficient medical assistance has been provided by jail authorities.

Countering Claims of Family Absence

In his letter, Khosa contested assertions that Khan’s family purposefully missed the recent medical examination, labeling such claims as inaccurate. He argued that at no time were family members, personal doctors, or legal representatives informed about the check-up, and a selected group of doctors conducted the evaluation without external oversight. Furthermore, Khan has made repeated requests to consult with his personal physicians, Faisal Sultan and Asim Yousaf, for an independent assessment of his eye condition.

Restricted Access to Imran Khan

Khosa also brought attention to the significant restrictions placed on meetings between Khan and his family. While previous guidelines allowed such meetings, it has been months since the family has been granted any access to the former prime minister. This situation continues to raise alarms regarding the treatment and basic rights afforded to Khan while he remains in custody.
