In 2017, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) updated its National Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical and Health Research, emphasizing the importance of scientific validity, risk minimization, and independent ethics review. The guidelines also include long-term monitoring protocols for research participants, particularly vulnerable populations. Furthermore, the ministry has revised standard operating procedures for its screening committee to enhance the regulation of international collaborations in health research. Together, these changes have fortified scientific review processes and participant protection mechanisms, establishing a solid foundation for the HPV vaccination initiative.

Uniform Implementation of Vaccination Program

While health remains primarily a state responsibility within India’s federal system, the Centre has shared operational guidelines with states and Union Territories to ensure consistent implementation of the HPV vaccination program and effective monitoring of vaccine safety. As the vaccination campaign progresses, the government is confident that the strengthened regulatory framework and real-time monitoring system for adverse events will bolster public trust while advancing efforts to combat cervical cancer among adolescent girls.

On Thursday, as calls for discussion grew louder, Congress leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi, staged protests outside Parliament. The Opposition has been vocal about not only the geopolitical situation in West Asia but also its repercussions on domestic issues, particularly the reported shortage of LPG cylinders across the country.

LPG Shortage Linked to International Events

The LPG crisis is said to be related to the military tensions in the Middle East, particularly due to disruptions caused by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. Businesses in various regions, including Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, have shifted to alternative cooking methods, such as induction cooking, as a result. Local restaurant owner Dolraj Gaire explained that his establishment has transitioned to induction cooking to mitigate the effects of the shortage.

Industry Adjustments Amid Shortages

Gaire mentioned that about sixty percent of his restaurant’s cooking operations have adapted to induction methods. He stated that the remaining tasks are expected to be resolved soon with the anticipated arrival of induction supplies. “We are trying to make it work using induction. Our entire commercial production relies on it, and all staff are actively engaged,” he noted.

Government Response on LPG Production

In response to the ongoing crisis, the central government announced that domestic LPG production has increased by approximately twenty-five percent. Officials conveyed that all domestic production efforts are being prioritized for household consumers. However, non-domestic LPG supply is being allocated primarily to essential services, including hospitals and educational institutions.
