According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand, “Initial investigation suggests that things might be internal in nature. It seems that some sharp weapon has been used, which caused so much blood loss that it led to death.” The police were alerted about the incident around 4:30 pm and rushed to the crime scene, where they found Prakash’s body in the living room with injuries to the abdomen, chest, and hands.

How the Murder Came to Light?

The murder came to light when Pallavi made a video call to a friend, the wife of a retired IPS officer, and confessed, saying she had “killed the monster.” The friend, alarmed by the confession, informed her husband who in turn notified the police. Pallavi and the couple’s daughter, Kruthi, were present at the residence during the time of the crime. Both were detained and questioned by police for nearly 12 hours.

According to the media reports, the investigation revealed that the retired officer had fought with his wife earlier in the day. During the altercation, she allegedly threw chilli powder at him, tied him up, and stabbed him multiple times. “The 68-year-old was also attacked with a glass bottle,” said reports. A sharp weapon was found at the scene, though police said further investigation would determine whether it was the murder weapon.

Victim’s Son Revealed Shocking Details

The case took a darker turn with revelations from Om Prakash’s son, Kartikesh, who filed a formal complaint. In it, he wrote: “My mother, Mrs. Pallavi, and my sister, Kruthi, have been suffering from depression and used to fight with my father frequently. I strongly suspect that they are involved in the murder of my father. My mother, Mrs. Pallavi, had been threatening to kill my father, Mr. Omprakash (Retired DGP and IGP), for the past week. Due to these threats, my father had gone to stay at the residence of his sister, Ms. Saritha Kumari.”

He also disclosed that Pallavi had been battling schizophrenia for over 12 years and was undergoing treatment. Family members confirmed she often showed signs of delusion, anxiety, and fear. She believed her husband might harm her and had accused him of threatening her with a firearm on multiple occasions.

Pallavi Accused Husband of Poisoning and Having Terror Ties

In the days leading up to the murder, Pallavi had posted disturbing messages in a WhatsApp group, accusing Om Prakash of attempting to poison her and their daughter. She claimed he was drugging them through tainted food and water, and even mentioned “biochemical weapons” and other extreme allegations. She wrote that her husband had terrorist connections, was a “PFI member,” and appealed for intervention by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

“She claimed all the junior officers of Karnataka Police were bought and appealed to take suo motu action,” said reports, adding that these messages were largely dismissed due to her mental health history and the frequency of similar past claims.

Om Prakash’s Service History

When police reached the residence on Sunday, they found that Pallavi and her daughter had locked themselves inside a room. Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikash Kumar Vikash confirmed that “there were three people (at the residence) when the incident happened. We are certain.” He ruled out speculation of a property dispute as the motive and said the investigation is ongoing.

Om Prakash, a native of Bihar, began his service as an IPS officer in 1981. He served in several important roles including as Additional SP of Ballari, in the Lokayukta Police, and as DIG of the Criminal Investigation Department. He was appointed Karnataka’s DGP in 2015 and retired in 2017.

Police are now awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination and further forensic tests. No formal arrests have been made yet, but an FIR has been registered, and the investigation continues to determine the motive, sequence of events, and exact circumstances surrounding the crime.
