Northern Railways, in conjunction with Indus Towers, has launched a project aimed at increasing access to sanitary products for women. Under the initiative, 500 sanitary napkin vending machines have been installed at 175 railway stations located in the Delhi, Firozpur, Ambala, Moradabad, and Lucknow divisions. This effort is part of Indus Towers’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme known as Nari Samman.

The vending machines are designed with IoT-enabled monitoring systems and have reportedly dispensed approximately three crore sanitary napkins since their deployment. This initiative guarantees that women travellers have round-the-clock access to sanitary products, thereby supporting menstrual hygiene and convenience during their journeys.

Indus Towers’ Nari Samman programme is part of a larger CSR initiative titled Pragati, which aims to establish a sustainable ecosystem focused on awareness, access, and community support. The project aligns with the Government of India’s efforts to improve menstrual health awareness through the Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS) under the National Health Mission.

Objective to Promote Women’s Health

Rajesh Kumar Pandey, General Manager of Northern Railways, commented on the significance of this initiative, highlighting the reliance of millions of women and girls on the railway network for their daily activities, including work, education, and healthcare. He stated that ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity for these passengers is a priority for the Indian Railways. The partnership with Indus Towers is viewed as a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and support within public spaces.

Tejinder Kalra, Chief Operating Officer of Indus Towers Ltd., remarked on the execution and scale of the initiative across one of India’s busiest railway zones. He pointed out that the deployment of resilient and technology-driven solutions reflects Indus Towers’ expertise, ensuring access becomes a seamless part of everyday life for women. The partnership reaffirms a commitment to building social infrastructure that enhances women’s daily experiences.

This initiative is part of the larger goal set by Indus Towers, aiming to have a positive impact on more than 150 million lives by the year 2030, which underscores the company’s commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.

Enhancing Infrastructure for Women Travellers

The installation of sanitary napkin vending machines complements the ongoing efforts of Indian Railways to make travel more dignified and inclusive for women. This initiative integrates menstrual hygiene infrastructure into railway stations, which is crucial given the various steps already taken, including reserved coaches for women and improvements in sanitation facilities.

By addressing the critical yet frequently overlooked aspect of menstrual hygiene, this initiative fortifies the ecosystem of women-centric facilities within the railway network. It aims to ensure that dignity becomes an inherent part of daily travel experiences for women, enhancing the overall quality of public infrastructure.

This collaborative project highlights the importance of creating supportive environments that respect and promote women’s health needs within public transportation systems. Through such efforts, both Indus Towers and Northern Railways demonstrate a commitment to the continuous improvement of services aimed at ensuring women feel safe and respected while travelling.

Amazon has achieved water positive status in India ahead of its 2027 target, with the company announcing that it now returns more water to communities than it consumes across its direct operations, including corporate offices, fulfilment centres and data centres.

The company said it returned 120 per cent of the water used across its Indian operations in 2025, marking a key milestone in its global water stewardship strategy. Amazon has also invested more than Rs 62 crore in projects across six states, which are expected to replenish over 4 billion litres of water annually once completed.

Amazon Achieves Target Ahead of Schedule

Amazon said the milestone comes at a time when India faces significant water stress, with the country accounting for 18 per cent of the world’s population but possessing only 4 per cent of global freshwater resources.

The company measures its progress by comparing the amount of water returned through conservation and replenishment initiatives with the volume withdrawn for direct operations.

According to Amazon, progress is verified through regular internal reviews as well as third-party audits.

“Water is fundamental to the communities where we operate, and we recognize both the scale of India’s water challenge and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference,” said Abhinav Singh, Vice President, Operations, Amazon India, APAC, Middle East and Türkiye.

“Achieving water positive in India is a significant milestone. It reflects years of our consistent work to improve water efficiency across our operations while investing in large-scale community projects, from lake restoration to watershed development. We remain committed to improving water quality and helping build more water-resilient communities across the country,” he added.

Company Focuses on Reducing and Reusing Water

Amazon said its data centres in India do not use water for cooling, while water consumption at fulfilment centres and offices is largely limited to basic requirements such as drinking water, kitchens and sanitation facilities.

The company has introduced low-flow fixtures and smart water meters to improve efficiency, detect leaks and reduce wastage.

As of 2025, wastewater treatment plants installed at Amazon facilities recycle water, supplying around 298 million litres annually for toilet flushing and irrigation purposes.

The company said it is expanding wastewater treatment capacity across fulfilment centres to increase the reuse of treated water for cleaning and cooling applications.

Rainwater harvesting systems across Amazon facilities collected around 178 million litres of water in 2025, allowing groundwater resources to be replenished.

Community Projects Across Six States

Amazon’s water replenishment initiatives are concentrated in water-stressed regions where it operates, in collaboration with local partners.

The company has committed more than Rs 62 crore to water stewardship projects in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and the Delhi-NCR region.

These projects are expected to replenish over 4 billion litres of water annually through watershed restoration, lake rejuvenation, groundwater recharge, water quality improvement and efficient irrigation systems.

Key initiatives include a Yamuna River watershed project in Delhi, which is expected to replenish more than 400 million litres of water every year through groundwater recharge infrastructure.

Amazon is also supporting water quality improvement efforts in the Adyar River watershed in Chennai.

AWS Moves Towards Global Water Positive Goal

Amazon said its water stewardship strategy also extends to Amazon Web Services (AWS), which announced a global target in 2022 to become water positive by 2030.

According to the company, AWS has already achieved 75 per cent of that target and returned three litres of water for every four litres used in 2025.

In India, AWS has partnered with WaterAid to support projects around Hyderabad expected to replenish 640 million litres annually.

It has also collaborated with Water.org on projects around Mumbai and Hyderabad that are expected to provide more than 500 million litres of water annually.

In addition, AWS has worked with SEARCH to improve water availability for farmers in villages surrounding Hyderabad, where the company has operations.

More Than 50 Water Projects Announced Globally

Amazon said it has announced more than 50 water replenishment projects worldwide, which are expected to return over 24 billion litres of water annually.

These initiatives focus on watershed restoration, improving access to clean water, enhancing water quality, reducing leakage and addressing water scarcity and declining stream flows.

The company said its long-term approach to water stewardship is guided by principles of customer focus, innovation, operational excellence and sustainable growth.

Marico Limited, one of India’s leading FMCG companies, organised a ‘Women Water Meet’ at Umale village in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, under the Paanishala initiative of the Jalashay Jalsamruddhi Programme. Held in alignment with International Women’s Day and World Water Day, the initiative celebrated the pivotal, yet often under-acknowledged role women play in water management, agriculture, and household decision‑making.

The event brought together 110+ women, including members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), ASHA workers, and Self‑Help Groups (SHGs) representatives from seven project villages. Designed as a cross‑learning platform, the meet enabled women to exchange insights, experiences, and grassroots solutions focused on water conservation and sustainable water use.

Interactive sessions covered scientific information sharing on aquifer mapping, groundwater awareness, and community-led water management, supported by learning-based games and group discussions to reinforce key conservation practices. A symbolic hand‑imprint activity by the participants formed a large water‑drop motif, representing collective ownership and unity in water stewardship. The event concluded with a collective pledge to advance the water‑saving practices introduced through the Jalashay Jalsamruddhi Programme, followed by a community lunch and distribution of small tokens to acknowledge women as catalysts of change.

Commenting on the initiative, Amit Bhasin, Chief Legal Officer, Group General Counsel, and Secretary of the CSR Committee, Marico Limited, said,“Empowering women in water governance is essential to building resilient communities. The Jalashay Jalsamruddhi Programme is rooted in the belief that sustainable water management must be community-led, with women’s voices and leadership at its core. Through projects like the Women Water Meet under the Paanishala initiative, women from across villages came together to deepen their understanding of groundwater, exchange knowledge, and strengthen their role as custodians of this vital resource. By placing gender equity at the heart of water stewardship, we are catalysing scalable, community-driven impact, where informed participation today shapes healthier, more sustainable ecosystems for tomorrow.”

Marico’s Jalashay initiative is a comprehensive water stewardship programme designed to replenish more water than the company consumes annually. Active across Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, and Gujarat, the programme drives community-led interventions such as water assessments, participatory budgeting, and the promotion of sustainable farming practices including drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting. To date, Jalashay has created over 487 crore litres of water potential, positively impacting 4,000+ farmers and their families.

Through its dual approach, demand-side interventions (Paanishala) focusing on efficient water use, and supply-side interventions (Jal Samruddhi) aimed at groundwater recharge and water storage, the Jalashay initiative addresses environmental, social, and economic challenges in water-stressed regions while contributing to SDGs 6 and 12. Under Paanishala, demand‑side efforts include promoting efficient irrigation practices and agricultural reforms such as drip irrigation and climate‑appropriate crop selection; building water‑resilient communities through capacity‑building programs, training, and water budgeting; and creating behavioural and structural change by offering incentives for farmers to adopt water‑saving technologies while implementing penalties, infrastructure upgrades, and awareness initiatives to reduce wastage and encourage responsible water use. On the supply side, Jal Samruddhi focuses on identifying and developing new water sources through groundwater recharge and rainwater harvesting, increasing water‑storage capacities via tanks, ponds, and aquifer recharge, and strategically diverting water to priority assets to strengthen supply in critical areas. It also leverages technology to treat and make previously unusable water potable through methods such as desalination and filtration.

Imparting skill training to youth is crucial for reasons like boosting employment opportunities, economic growth, reducing brain drain, personal growth, addressing industry needs and promoting entrepreneurship. By imparting skill training to youth in India, the country can harness the potential of its demographic dividend, drive economic growth, and create a more prosperous future.

India needs future-ready skills to stay competitive in the global job market and leverage its demographic dividend. With the country’s youthful population and growing economy, investing in skills like artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, and green technologies can drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

July 15 is observed as World Youth Skills Day with an aim to emphasize upon skilling the youth with the contemporary skills to empower them and promote economic development. With the advent of generative AI and other technologies, a lot of traditional jobs are facing existential crisis. Amid this, it is important to ensure that there is a workforce which is skilled and ready to work in the new environment using new technologies.

Let us look at the top CSR initiatives that are working towards skilling the youth.

Boeing India and Wilton Weavers to Strengthen Aerospace Skilling

Boeing India has announced a partnership with Indian supply chain partner Wilton Weavers that is helping build a skilled workforce as part of India’s growing aerospace manufacturing ecosystem. The Boeing India supply chain skilling initiative, Kaushal, and the Wilton Weavers’ Ameyaa program will come together to provide opportunities to people from disadvantaged backgrounds including those with disabilities, to join mainstream aviation manufacturing jobs. The partnership will advance supplier capability and is a model that can be replicated across the aerospace industry.

The Wilton Weavers’ Ameyaa program brings women with disabilities into carpet manufacturing through training and stable employment. By adding on the Boeing Kaushal skilling program, their skills are being further enhanced to meet global aerospace standards for aviation carpet manufacturing, which involves high precision and stringent quality and safety standards to be met.

Reliance Foundation skills over 3 lakh youths

At the 21st Century Skills Conclave in January 2026, Reliance Foundation marked a major milestone of reaching over 12 lakh people, with 3 lakh+ youth skilled and 1.8 lakh+ youth finding employment. With industry leaders, skilling practitioners, and young leaders, the Conclave deliberated on India’s evolving skills landscape and the future of work while celebrating journeys of youth who have transitioned from learning to earning. With keynote addresses, panel discussions, fireside conversations, and first-hand accounts from youth navigating the world of jobs, it was an effort to accelerate skilling and employment in line with India’s Skill India mission.

HCL Foundation and Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation to empower rural youth

HCL Foundation, which drives the corporate social responsibility agenda of global technology company HCL Tech in India, and the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to upskill rural youth in the Vilathikulam and Pudur blocks of Thoothukudi district with digital technologies and allied skills.

The partnership aims to provide training and placement support to 2,500 youth from 95 village panchayats over the next 36 months.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to jointly develop a structured and scalable skilling ecosystem across the state by strengthening Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The collaboration is a testament to Toyota’s commitment to drive inclusive growth by aligning industrial expansion with skill-based empowerment.

This initiative is closely aligned with TKM’s philosophy of strengthening local manufacturing eco-system, generating employment opportunities, and advancing green mobility. Furthermore, it reinforces TKM’s broader vision of nurturing a future-ready talent pool to meet the evolving needs of the automotive industry.

The initiative is designed to drive sustainable livelihood opportunities through skill-based learning. As Sikkim celebrated 50 years of statehood, the signing of this MoU also adds to the significance of this year’s World Youth Skills Day celebration, reinforcing the role of partnerships in building a future ready and skilled workforce for long-term development.

This initiative addresses regional challenges, enhances employability, and fosters sustainable livelihoods, contributing to inclusive growth and economic development.
Additionally, this initiative will engage students from government colleges, polytechnics, and vocational institutions. A blended delivery model—anchored by campus-based Career Service Centres, virtual learning platforms, and WhatsApp communities, will offer mentoring, counselling, and continuous learning aligning with youth aspirations and real-world opportunities.

CSR of FedEx to train youth in AI, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security

The programme also offers job placement support, ensuring that participants can seamlessly transition into meaningful employment in these sectors.

As India emerges as a global hub for technology and green innovation, addressing the skills gap is essential to ensure that the youth are job-ready rather than merely job-seeking. Initiatives focused on such skill development in high-growth areas like EV and AI are therefore crucial. By equipping them with relevant, in-demand skills, especially in major economic centres, such initiatives not only meet immediate workforce needs but also drive long-term, inclusive economic growth.

This initiative marks Standard Chartered’s renewal of its existing partnership with Sambhav Foundation to equip underserved youth with employable skills. In the earlier phase, 2,280 individuals were trained in sectors such as BFSI, Tally, and Data Analysis.

New Delhi, India: ParaSafe, a subsidiary of Paracoat, has announced a major safety initiative in partnership with Gurgaon Police as part of National Road Safety Month. Anchored to the national theme “Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha”, the initiative underscores a critical but often overlooked pillar of road safety—visibility of two-wheeler riders during low light conditions. Through this initiative, ParaSafe will distribute a safety kit containing Rechargeable LED Helmet Blinker Lights and first-aid kit, equipping Gurgaon Traffic Police personnel and Blinkit delivery riders with enhanced safety.

The distribution drive was held at the Gurgaon Traffic Police Headquarters, DLF Phase 4, Sec 28, Sushant Lok, Opp. IVY Building, Near Galleria Market, in the presence of senior Gurugram Traffic Police officials,DCP Rajesh Kumar Mohan and ACP Satyapal Yadav. Senior leadership from Paracoat and ParaSafe, including Mr. Ramashankar Pandey- Executive Director, ParaSafe, and Mr. Rajesh Poddar- CEO, Paracoat, was also present at the event.

The multi-mode LED helmet blinker light distributed by ParaSafe is designed to enhance rider visibility during both day and night, encouraging safer riding habits among commuters of all ages. Rechargeable and easy to attach to helmets, the blinker works alongside existing safety gear to create a clear visual signal for other road users. By improving visibility, it helps reduce the risk of collisions and near-miss incidents for police officials navigating busy highways on two-wheelers.

“Protection has always been the foundation of road safety, but enhanced visibility takes it a step further. Helmet blinkers ensure police personnel can perform their duty with greater confidence and security—empowering them to safeguard more lives on our roads” said DCP Rajesh Kumar Mohan IPS.

Commenting on the campaign, Mr. Rajesh Poddar, CEO at Paracot said, “For a person riding a cycle, scooty, or bike, being seen by other road users, especially in low light or dense traffic, dramatically improves safety outcomes. According to global safety organisations, helmets reduce the risk of death in a crash by over 40% and head injuries by nearly 70% when worn correctly. Adding a visibility layer, such as LED helmet blinkers, further strengthens this protection by making Police Personnel more noticeable to motorists, particularly at night and at intersections where many two-wheeler accidents occur.”

Mr. Rama Shankar Pandey, Chairman FICCI Road Safety & Promoter ParaSafe said, “2Wheeler riders are 17 times more vulnerable than other 4Wheeler road users and hence by improving their visibility through a signalling light on the back of the Helmet (very similar to High Mounted Tail Lamp in cars), it will go long way in saving lives on Indian Roads.”

This initiative aligns with the government’s Vision Zero approach to road safety and supports the National Road Safety Policy, which calls for technological interventions to reduce fatalities. With India positioning itself as a hub for smart mobility and technology-enabled road safety, ParaSafe’s innovation demonstrates how affordable, scalable solutions can make roads safer for millions.
