The CHC which will host the Fujifilm Medical Centre will provide DR X-ray services for faster  diagnosis, along with early screening for tuberculosis with sputum collection, and regular health  camps that bring preventive care closer to the community. Industry experts will provide guidance to the participants, helping them to confidently set up sustainable business ventures.

Rural Sanitation – L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering

L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has begun a sanitation revolution in two villages of Waghodia Taluka in Vadodara district. LTHE’s CSR division was surveying the district for a sanitation project and identified Umarva and Pavlepur villages as needing immediate intervention.

For the residents of Umarva and Pavlepur villages sanitation wasn’t a priority. While there were many reasons for the dire sanitation situation in the two villages, lack of water, financial constraints, and mindsets were major deterrents preventing the villagers from adopting a more hygienic way of life. In association with implementation partner Voluntary Youth Organisation for Motivation (VYOM), LTHE CSR project team decided to build individual household sanitary latrines as part of a detailed programme for which it collaborated extensively with multiple stakeholders over an extended period. The project involved participation of the community, including the design and construction of toilets. It made sure that the villagers took ownership of the facilities for usage, repair, and maintenance of the toilets.

Besides building the toilets, the CSR programme also involved educating the community members about the harmful effects of open defecation. There have already been multiple benefits including fewer incidents of water-borne diseases and lower out-of-pocket expenses for the families due to improved sanitation.

Project Prerna – MG Motor India

MG Motor India does CSR in Vadodara under MG SEWA, the umbrella platform of the British automaker to serve immediate communities with whom the company interacts. MG SEWA and Baroda Citizens Council are running ‘Prerna’, a Skill Development programme aimed at training underprivileged women. ‘Prerna’ aims to create a financial platform for them and their families in the long-term. MG Motor India has brought Dineshbhai Thakur Raval onboard as the Prerna programme’s Master Trainer. Dineshbhai has been stitching since the age of 14 years and was diagnosed with polio when he was a 17-year-old. It left his right hand and leg dysfunctional. Under MG SEWA, the carmaker started supporting the education of girl students in 2019. Other CSR initiatives under MG SEWA include skilling unemployed women to make masks. MG Motor has facilitated enhanced production of ventilators by providing technological and infrastructure support to an MSME player, Max Ventilator, at Vadodara. The company has provided more than 100 Hector cars to frontline workers and donated Hector Ambulances as part of the same.

Hostel for Differently-Abled Girls – Schaeffler India

CSR of Schaeffler India set up the hostel for differently-abled girls at Mook Dhwani Trust in Vadodara with the primary objective of retaining the girls in secondary schools. The project ensured that distance to the school, parents’ financial affordability and other societal factors never came in the way of denying any girl student the opportunity to pursue her studies.

Inaugurated in June 2015, the hostel is constructed within a school campus and provides accommodation to over 30 differently-abled girls. The facilities include rooms, a dining hall and a meditation hall along with indoor and outdoor recreation areas. The premise has a multi-functional Gazebo to display school work or host an exhibition. The hostel has significantly reduced the dropout rates of girl students in Vadodara.

In FY2023-24, the district of Surat was the fifth largest recipient of CSR funds in Gujarat at Rs 175.44 crore from 321 companies. The top sectors for CSR programs were Education, Health, and Environment, with an investment of Rs 76.24 crore, Rs 48.38 crore, and Rs 34.87 crore, respectively, in each of the sectors. Essar Steel Hemophilia Day Care Centre

Like diabetes, there is no cure for hemophilia but it can be subdued, and major complications can be avoided through regular care. Early detection and treatment is important for people suffering from this condition. The city of Surat is estimated to have at least 600 hemophiliacs, but only around 400 of them are registered. Essar Foundation and Essar Steel Hazira supported the New Civil Hospital in Surat in setting up Gujarat’s first Hemophilia Day Care Centre back in 2015.

The Hemophilia Day Care Centre in Surat addresses the needs of over 600 patients a day. These patients are treated free of cost at the integrated treatment facility, which includes investigation or diagnosis laboratories, counselling for patients and family, physiotherapy and a five-bed day care ward.

Saint Gobain – Covid-19 hospital

At a time when labour shortage is hurting the construction sector, causing cost escalation and delays in the completion of projects, Saint Gobain India Pvt Ltd – Gyproc marked a new record by erecting a 600-bed Covid-19 hospital in Surat in just 17 days. As part of its CSR, the glass company created 52,000 sq ft of walled partitions across eight floors of the existing structure to convert it into a Covid-19 hospital by using specialised gypsum plasterboard-based drywall technology. The gypsum plasterboard drywall made from natural gypsum rocks are easy to install with reduced workforce, which turned things in favour of Saint Gobain.

GIPCL DEEP

Government-owned GIPCL (Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited) promoted the Trust DEEP (Development Efforts For Rural Economy And People) exclusively to undertake its CSR activities. DEEP works towards holistic development of the communities surrounding the company through integrated social development approach. DEEP operates in 5 villages of Mandvi taluka and 18 villages of Mangrol Taluka, both in Surat District. HK Group Empower 100

Through their Empower 100 Initiative, HK Designs commits to hire and train at least 100 women every year across all age brackets starting from 18 years. HK Group is a key player in the diamond industry. Specialised training is given to women for developing the skills of jewellery manufacturing, being compensated while undergoing this training. After the training is complete, they can either join HK Group as a full-time employee or are free to opt for job opportunities in other companies.

Further, as part of Empower 100 CSR initiative, H.K. Group has pledged to reinvest a portion of their company’s profit toward ongoing training for women, enabling fair wages, boosting self-esteem, independence and community among women.

Dharmanandan Diamonds – stem cell research

Dharmanandan Diamonds is dedicated to the thousands of these skilled workers they employ providing livelihood for their families. The diamond makers, along with Hari Krishna Exports, has committed part of their CSR in Surat to stem cell research. Both companies, located in Surat, encouraged their employees to donate stem cells to further medical research in the area. Over 9,000 artisans and staff have since donated stems cells, helping critically ill patients in Surat receive necessary treatments for a second chance at life.

A year ago, SSG Hospital struggled to store the rising number of bodies. The hospital had limited cold storage space which led to poor hygiene and put pressure on hospital staff. Reports revealed that two or more bodies sometimes shared the same mortuary cabinet, highlighting the severity of the crisis.

This changed after corporate groups provided funding through CSR schemes. The LIC Golden Jubilee Fund helped SSG Hospital buy new mortuary cabinets. This increased cold storage capacity significantly. Dr Ranjan Aiyer, the hospital’s medical superintendent, said the cold room now holds six cabinets, each with six units. This means the hospital can safely store 36 bodies at once. There is a plan, already in advanced approval stages, to double this number soon using additional CSR funds.

At the same time, GMERS Medical College and Hospital opened a new post-mortem facility. This development has reduced the burden on SSG Hospital and improved public health infrastructure in Vadodara. It also ensures greater dignity for the deceased.

Developed through a co-creation process with students, artists, and designers, Project Udaan was led by artists Amrit Khurana and Anikesa Dhing. Drawing from her lived experience with autism, Khurana designed tactile, predictable elements that promote comfort and expression. Dhing complemented this with textured contrasts to encourage calm interaction. A hands-on workshop at Arpan, facilitated by Siddhanth Shah of Access For ALL, gave children the chance to explore textures, tools and colours, ensuring their voices directly shaped the final design.

Asian Paints’ expertise in material and colour innovation brought the vision to life with Royale Play textures, matte pastel emulsions, and tactile Nilaya fabrics and wallpapers. These elements create an engaging, multi-sensory environment that stimulates exploration while offering grounding. The matte finishes reduce glare for visual ease, while sensory rugs, pompom-textured surfaces, and cocoon-like structures cater to diverse sensory needs.

This IPL season, the Titans processed a remarkable 93,385 kilograms of waste generated during their seven home matches. This achievement is part of a broader, ongoing campaign that began in 2023, with the team’s vision firmly rooted in a sustainability-first approach. In the previous 2024 season, the initiative saw an even higher figure, with 1,04,777 kilograms of waste being efficiently processed through recycling, composting, upcycling, reuse, and donations. These efforts ensure that waste is not just collected but also repurposed, minimising the environmental footprint of each matchday.

The Narendra Modi Stadium, which hosts over 100,000 spectators, presents a unique challenge and opportunity for sustainable operations. The Titans have embraced this responsibility by implementing a comprehensive, end-to-end waste management system. This includes decentralised sorting, recycling, and composting of waste on site. Of the total waste managed this season, 83,761 kilograms was dry waste and 9,624 kilograms was wet waste. Excess food and usable materials are channelled towards donation, furthering the initiative’s social impact alongside its environmental benefits.

Awareness Drives

A crucial partner in these efforts is NEPRA Resource Management Pvt. Ltd., which manages the entire waste lifecycle—from collection and segregation at the stadium to transportation and final processing. The partnership also extends to stadium-wide sensitisation campaigns, ensuring that food stall operators and fans are educated about best practices in hygiene and waste management. Visual communication through banners, posters, and bin signage, along with strong social media outreach, helps drive public participation and awareness.

The Titans’ green initiatives are not limited to waste management. The franchise has also taken significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint. Collaborations with Rayzon Solar have brought renewable energy solutions to the fore, with solar panels helping to power stadium operations and team facilities. This move not only reduces energy costs but also aligns with India’s broader net-zero emissions goals. The use of electric vehicles, public transport partnerships, and the encouragement of carpooling among fans further contribute to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

Fan engagement is central to the Titans’ sustainability drive. The franchise runs awareness campaigns during matches, encouraging spectators to participate in green initiatives such as using compostable food containers, segregating waste, and supporting solar-driven merchandise. These efforts are amplified through interactive activities, pre-game announcements, and social media campaigns, making sustainability a shared mission between the team and its supporters.
